Iraqi police say they have arrested eight Sunni Arabs allegedly planning to assassinate a judge presiding over the trial of ousted leader Saddam Hussein.
The arrests Saturday in Kirkuk came as prosecutors prepared to call their first witnesses when Saddam's trial resumes Monday. Saddam and seven co-defendants are charged with crimes against humanity in the deaths of more than 140 Shi'ites in the town of Dujail in 1982.
Meanwhile, former Iraqi interim Prime Minister Iyad Allawi says human rights abuses in Iraq are now as bad, and in some instances worse, than under Saddam's rule.
Mr. Allawi - a secular Shi'ite running for election to Parliament December 15 - told a British newspaper, The Observer, that he believes the government is running secret torture centers and backing death squads. He accused the Interior Ministry of attempting to minimize the attacks, which he says are aimed at Sunnis.
Another sign that progress is being made in Iraq. Iraqis taking charge.
Sounds like he's taking a page out of JFINGSKERRY'S handbook and the DIMS. He doesn't know but try to prove him wrong
good good Iraqis taking care of themselves. this is the kind of thing that makess all those sacrifices worth taking. givving the iraqi people the chance to control thier destiny while being responsible and preventing evil from taking place or root for that matter. the iraqies suffered great atrocities under Saddam.. probably on the level of the Holocaust... andd the MSM is all peaCHY ANDD LOOKING VERY HARD THE OTHER WAY
