NBC News : Tutu Much !

It was difficult to say which was the greater display of arrogance:Anglican Archbishop Desmond Tutu’s hypocritical condemnation of the United States – or NBC’s broadcast of this condemnation to the American people – at a time when American men and women are risking their lives overseas.

Let me address NBC first. What the network did last night was the moral equivalent of interviewing Joseph Goebbels orTokyo Rose or Axis Sally during World War II : slimy beyond belief !

As to the good Archbishop: his nation (South Africa) has , for many years, interfered in the affairs of its neighbors , and even now provides safe haven to thousands of Ugandan guerillas , who sally forth to further ravage their homeland.

South Africa (according to UN statistics) is one of the most lawless nations on earth – despite an all-powerful central government. Most of its people still live in crude shanty towns , with the new Black Elite –such as the Archbishop - occupying the beautiful homes the casual tourist sees and remarks upon.

Law enforcement is corrupt: more interested in compelling political obedience, and securing bribes than anything else- yet they have managed to crowd every prison and jail to 150% of capacity. The people of the shanty towns have become notorious for exacting raw vigilante justice against the criminals that plague them .

Public health is in shambles , with over 10% of the population infected with AIDS – again, one of the highest percentages in the world.

One would think such a nation would be barren- but it is not. South Africa is incredibly rich in natural resources : incredibly poor in good government – and apparently , incredibly willing to tell the rest of the world how they should order their affairs.

If this is Desmond Tutu’s “shining example” of what a nation should be,I think I’ll settle for what I have !

As to NBC : Shame on you !

A terrible shame really.

As for Tutu, he lost it a long time ago. Another great example of a Nobel Peace Prize winner.....

IMHO, the wise and fortunate South Africans left more than 20 years ago as they could see into the future of their country forced by (wrong headed) world opinion, to abandon what had maintained a fairly balanced government and economy until such time that the majority could be naturally and orderly integrated into the functions of government and economy. The forces of freedom were set back at least 20 years by attempting to rush the process. So much for world opinion.
