My pastor actually did it quite well. He tied it into the readings of the first week of Advent and asked some pretty down to earth, serious questions. A great testament to his message was that no one in a fairly crowded church walked out.
The reporting has never been quite accurate on the message though, and Monsignor said it best: "The church does not oppose stem cells that come from life giving sources." He didn't come out and say placenta and umbilical cord blood, but that was what he meant, and the stem cells from those sources are proven to have benefits.
