It was a dangerous morning on Black Friday at a West Michigan Wal-Mart.
An impatient crowd stormed the doors in the mad rush to get to those door-buster deals inside.
It was an ugly scene when the doors opened at the Cascade Township Wal-Mart. Hundreds of shoppers pushed and shoved their way into the store, trampling a number of customers, sending two to the hospital.
At 5:00 a.m. the doors opened, holiday shoppers rushed in, and immediately one customer is pushed to the ground.
"This is ridiculous. I do not want my life in danger for this," said shopper Karen Dietstra. "This is not worth it. This has been a tradition for years. I don't think that I have to get beat up to try to get a sale."
Two shoppers from Grand Rapids did. One of them, 13-year-old Deja McHerron, had to be taken away by ambulance.
"They stumbled over a pregnant lady and Deja was trying to help her get up. And they stumbled over her and they stepped on her back. And now she's going to the hospital," said McHerron's mother, Deborah.
Duretha Arnold-Youngblood, 37, was also taken to the hospital, complaining of an injured knee. Her husband, Johnny Youngblood, took issue with what he calls a lack of security. Youngblood believes Wal-Mart should hire trained uniformed security guards to help bring order to the early-morning holiday crowd and not leave those duties to Wal-Mart associates.
"They didn't have no security at all," said McHerron's sister, Sierra.
"Wal-Mart did not do enough to protect us," Dietstra said.
What went wrong? Managers at the Cascade Wal-Mart are not commenting at this time.
24 Hour News 8 phoned Wal-Mart's corporate offices seeking an answer, but nobody has returned our call.
Gotta be a friggin' liberal....
I agree. Those stupos had nothing to do with it (sarcasm)
They have added a fourth partner - the firm is now Boyd, Dewey, Cheatam and Howe.
What is the big deal about HDTV....and what other types of tv's are there?? My mother has a big tv--a slim one...but you can't see the picture from the side...and 'lamps' keep going on it....it's always dark. I'll stick with my regular old fashioned TV that looks better than my mothers $2,000 one.
I was in Wally World also... Normally I don't even roll out that early for deer season!!
Took a shot to the ribs while getting a Game Boy Advance for the kiddo. This woman was about 5'3" and 115, but she hammered me like a NFL pro!!(I stand @6'2" and @230lbs)
Combat Shopping indeed!!
Surely one of the three cashiers working today could have doubled as door security...

JustAnotherOkie, so I remember never to click on a post.
Bah Humbug!
Are we not men? We are Devo.
For some reason, I would think that 'ADULTS' should act like 'ADULTS' instead of idiots?????
Maybe if we just walked, you know, one step at a slow speed in front of the other, we might get to where we are going????
I purposely did not go this morning at my local 'Black Friday' just because of this...people are idiots anymore, especially if they think they can save cent or two, and forget they need 'sense' to act like a respectable ADULT!!!
LOL I saw the wig incident also. Did you notice that in spite of her uh disabling injuries how quickly she smacked it back on her head while still lying on her belly?
This video looked more like Loss Prevention officers detaining someone than customers fighting.
Why the hell didn't I think of this... it's the lottery. slip and fall at Walmart and get a settlement. .. it's all make believe ... fractured fairy tales... for big bucks
Sounds like the true Christmas spirit. I don't know what the ACLU is so worked up about with Christmas. It clearly is no longer a religious holiday. How sad.
You summed it up well. We live in an instant world now. Yet, patience remains a virtue.
