Just saw this on Dayside, and I knew right away there would be an amusing thread here.
Silliness aside, I'm one of those who think there should be at least some sort of investigation of UFO's and such. The endless explanations of swamp gas, balloons, sunlight reflecting off seagulls and so forth gets a little suspicious.
If UFO's do exist, might they be some sort of military technology? That would neatly explain the refrain by governmental officials from looking very deeply into the events. But that raises a new set of questions. Like what department of the Air Force should I enlist in to get to fly one?
I like to say that if millions of people suddenly came forward and claimed that they had visions that revealed Bush as the Antichrist, there'd be hysterical demands for a congressional investigation that would be met the next day. Imagine what DU would look like. Tee hee.
At any rate, feel free to laugh at my tinfoil hat UFO belief. =P

No tinfoil hat required. I have seen swamp case and it looked an awful lot like what swamp gas might look like...a big, benign ball of burning methane. In fact, I would venture a guess that the gas was ingited by our auto exhaust since it stayed right behind the car (and it seemed to require a car with the engine running).
On the other hand I have spoken to people who have had other kinds of experiences and, though I can't know what they saw, it didn't sound like swamp gas.

........Hold Hearings On relations with ETs......... Considering the number of Muslims in Canada, they would do well to consider a conference on Aliens-of-the-Earthly-kind rather than waste their money on this tinfoil crap.

I would say that most UFO cases are just mistakes.
I'd also go so far as to say that methane might account for some of the sightings, since it can look quite, er, otherworldly.
Really, when people give every crazy account of a UFO their full and unquestioned support, that's what makes everyone else who thinks UFO's are something to be looked at look silly. If there's on thing to keep in mind when looking at events like this, it's to be skeptical. After all, when you think about it, it really is more likely what you saw was a balloon and not aliens from another planet flying a spaceship around.
Still, that's not to dismiss things. Since strange objects in the sky have been prominent in history ever since cave painting, there's probably at least something to it.

You may find the following interesting, photos taken by Olmsted Falls Police photographer near Cleveland Hopkins International Airport in September 2004. (Thread says N.Olmsted Police, which was originally reported in error.)

The local radio station that had coverage and also more photos posted on their web page, click this link;

A former Canadian Minister of Defence and Deputy Prime Minister under Pierre Trudeau has joined forces with three Non-governmental organizations to ask the Parliament of Canada to hold public hearings on Exopolitics -- relations with ETs. Uh... well, I guess if it keeps them off the streets and out of mischief it might be a good idea.
Kookoo. The whole world has gone kookoo.
