They were reported and we girls stood with the victims -- and saw the girls get trashed by the opposing counsel and the testimony of other players; they were all "settled" by what's called "shut up money" once it became obvious that it was that or be dragged through the mud.

On the other side of the coin, I also saw one guy get humiliated by another player for mistreating a girl (and it was a very thorough job of it too) ... but on another occasion I saw that guy punch his wife in the face because she came into the bar and caught him with a girl. (I believe charges were laid but I have no knowledge of what happened after that).

Life in the 1970s was unfriendly to young women who believed the press releases and newspaper versions of what some people were like. I don't reckon it's a lot different now, although likely the "shut up money" has gone up.
