“I'm deeply sorry,” he said then started crying. “This should have never happened.”

Yuh. Now prison gang rape SHOULD happen.

I do not think we as a society should in any way sanction or condone "prison rape".
There should be no such thing as "prison rape", since government prisons supposedly controll every aspect of the prisoners existance.
Think about it for just a moment.
I think we need, as a society, to stand up and demand criminal punishments fit the crimes, and not expect or assume that convicted criminals will actually meet out the justice we, as a supposedly civilized society, have failed to administer.
I can understand the position, although I do not agree with it, of people who abhor the death penalty.
What I do not understand is the position of people who think that the punishment of convicted criminals should be administered by other convicted criminals.
If we want pedophiles and rapists to suffer the same degradations they inflicted on their victims, let us sentence them to that,or death, and be done with it.
No, prison should not be a comfortable "time out", it is a societal punishment, not "corrective action".
And I am all for making it a "thing" widely known to be avoided at all cost.
But I think it wrong to expect the imprisoned dregs of our society to have a finer sense of moral justice than do we, who claim to be appalled at their crimes.
