I know that Spielberg is a liberal, but he usually leaves it out of his movies, and this looks like it will be fantastic.

However, the political minefield of the films subject matter the tale of a secret Mossad hit squad ordered to assassinate the Palestinian terrorists who directly or even indirectly carried out the massacre of Israeli athletes at the 1972 Olympics in Munich will be the main issue at awards time. Specifically, it all comes down to how the movie portrays its principal characters: Will the Israelis be seen as too bloodthirsty? Will the Palestinians be seen as too stereotypical? Insiders say Spielberg and his screenwriter Tony Kushner worked hard to create multidimensional characters. The Israelis tracked down and meted out justic eot a bunch of killers. Only for Hollywood could such an endeavor be a 'political minefield'.

I assume the "LA Weekly" is a typical leftist rag, they probably don't recall that the entire non-Muslim world was fully behind Israel in the days after the Munich massacre.

Viewing Israels response to Munich through the eyes of the men who were sent to avenge that tragedy adds a human dimension to a horrific episode that we usually think about only in political or military terms. By experiencing how the implacable resolve of these men to succeed in their mission slowly gave way to troubling doubts about what they were doing, I think we can learn something important about the tragic standoff we find ourselves in today. The Israelis had troubling doubts? What about the Palestinians. I guess they had no doubts and that's supposed to be okay?
So what's the message here? That we shouldn't retaliate against terrorists? That we should just sit by while they bomb us back to the stone age and make us all convert to their ways?

There will be no press junket, no premiere and, most importantly,
no Oscar marketing campaign beyond trailers and posters for
Steven Spielbergs movie Munich
Sounds like Spielberg is more embarassed by "Munich" than he was by "1941".
(Even if Spielberg wrote off "1941" even before it was released,
I'll never forget seeing it with a full house audience that was busy
laughing its' collective butts off at the film. Even Spielberg couldn't
destroy the inherent humor of Slim Pickens.)

What's interesting is the fact that Hollywood is mostly anti israel and here is a movie showing how Israel did what it had to to avenenge the murders of their athletes at the hands of terrorists. The movie might end up being a great movie but my guess is that the academy will snub their noses at it when it comes time to nominate.

WAR OF THE WORLDS.... MINORITY REPORT..... AI.....
I think he's lost and searching for material worthy of his talents. I hope MUNICH is great, but describing the massacrew of Israeli athletes at Munich as a 'tragedy' is not a good sign.
Gotta go... my daughter is kicking me off the computer!

"Private Ryan" was, IMHO, the absolute best movie about war that has ever been made, especially the opening scene of the landing at Normandy.

I thought the Normandy landing was astonishing cinema but the rest of that film stunk. That's a trend I've noticed about every Spielberg film I've seen: moments of true brilliance surrounded by crap.I've always found "A Bridge Too Far" to be the best overall film addressing war.
That's just my opinion.

I just got finished watching War Of The Worlds.
God, it sucked. I would have turned it off had I been watching it by myself.

The same with me, I think it is definately the best one ever made and sadly it is rarely ever mentioned. The scene when Tom Hanks is dying and he says "earn this" says it all.
To: Psycho_Bunny
I thought it was OK, the best being when Tom Cruise almost gets vaporized, then it turned stupid, not that it wasn`t already right from the start. I like how this alien machine comes from the ground and everybody stands around like they are expecting this....Nobody says "What the hell is that?" and throughout the whole movie everyone acts like they expect this alien attack. You would think at least one person would say "What the hell is going on??" or "What the hell is that?" but noooooooo, they all look up in the sky and see all this weird lightning and weird clouds and alien machines zapping them and none of them question it.."Oh it`s alien attacking us. Oh this is unfortunate, let us run away."

He's pretty much flopped since Private Ryan. Maybe in your book he has. Other than the movie "Hook", I enjoy all of Spielberg's movies. I don't care if he is a lefty.
