"Private Ryan" was, IMHO, the absolute best movie about war that has ever been made, especially the opening scene of the landing at Normandy.

I thought the Normandy landing was astonishing cinema but the rest of that film stunk.  That's a trend I've noticed about every Spielberg film I've seen:  moments of true brilliance surrounded by crap.

I've always found "A Bridge Too Far" to be the best overall film addressing war.

That's just my opinion.

The same with me, I think it is definately the best one ever made and sadly it is rarely ever mentioned. The scene when Tom Hanks is dying and he says "earn this" says it all.
