Black Friday
self | 11/23/05 | dono

Looking at the sale flyers in the paper, I see disclaimers like "seven units per store."

I recall last year, some stampedes, people trampling over people to grab stuff.

Will the madness cost someone their life tomorrow?

Also, will anyone admit to joning the mad rush on tomorrow? For the record, though somewhat tempted, I never have.

Well, despite the nay-sayers here, my husband and I are going out tomorrow. We have a lot of fun and get some bargains. We have picked our stores and the items we need to get. We will finish about 10:00 AM and come home for a nap.

We have never seen brawls or stampedes. We have found the crowds to be friendly and cheerful. It always puts us in a holiday mood.

So, for those who are sleeping in and not shopping, bless you! People who are made grumpy by crowds or shopping should stay home and enjoy something else.

Well, having worked retail for a few years, God bless you! If you can be cheerful to the customeers, you will make their holiday a nice one! Good luck!

Like the holiday travel deal from the Lamestream media, I get a kick off their breathless reporting of the "shopping season."

For a week before Thanksgiving, they inform us that airports will be busy and a lot of people will be in cars.

Tomorrow, the lead story will be

Malls Packed from Coast to Coast

I went one time just see what the madness was like. My wife refused to go and still does. I have to say it was quite interesting, didnt see any fights or shoving, but loads of people, most in a good mood with carts full of cheap tv's and electronics. The only thing I bought that day was breakfast at Denny's. Needless to say, I'll taking in extra z's tommorow also.

Thank you, I'll need it, I'm not a morning person, I'm a night owl, so getting up at 4 AM isn't a thrill for me.

My first time was 4 years ago, when my daughter-in-law was here and wanted to go. I have been two other times, but will not be out until about 8. Books-A-Million is having a special sale 8-10, and I will go to that. There will not be crowds like at Target and Wal-Mart.

The stampede starts on Boxing Day as people rush in to buy the Christmas decorations marked 50%off. Anyway, I hope and pray that this will be my last black friday on the receiving end. I do not like getting up extra early to put up with the shoppers that come out for the early bird specials.

I was going to go get one of the $378 HP laptops at Wal Mart tomorrow morning. Then, my wife talked me out of it. She said "Don't go get a laptop. We don't need it."

Has your wife been talking to my husband? I thought about getting the laptop at WalMart, and then I say the one at Best Buy. I talked myself into getting it. Then Hubby said I didn't need it and to save my money. :^(

Mr. Andie hasn't been to a mall for at least a year...probably more. I go about three times a year, and well, tomorrow ain't one of those times.

Tell your wife to shop online. So much easier than dealing with coupons and mindless clerks.

Absolutely! BB is a nightmare. I did wait in line one year to get a few items. I was in line for over 2 hours! My friend and I took turns. The only reason it was that short is they opened a register in cameras. If you were buying anything from that dept, you could go in line. I bought a disposable camera! The other lines were taking 3-4 hours. Never again!
My son has not made any special requests this year, so I will get what I decide another day. The MP3 players were a good deal at WM, so my sis bought 2 in case she can't get an ipod for her oldest. We already have an ipod and PSP. No mention of X-box 360. I wouldn't have bought it anyway!
Some stores allow on-line early birds as early as midnight tonight. I can shop when I wish, if I wish and in my jammies!

I am so sorry for you. Have you ever seen a 1940's movie where people go into a department store, and a clerk gushes over someone who is buying a hankerchief? Now, I am lucky to have someone greet me when I am buying a $1500 refrigerator...amazing.

HAH!! No-way have I, nor Will I ever go out shopping the day after TurkeyDay! I've been in that traffic, both the people and vehicle traffic is little to be desired.

And I swear, folks lose their conscientious reasoning that day and go nuts! If I needed that sort of atmosphere, I'd work in a daycare!

Good Luck and safe driving to those that do venture into the shopping war-path!

The last time I went to "Worst" Buy, I told my husband to get in line as soon as I walked in the door. Ten price checks and two "I'm going on break!"s later, we dropped our stuff, never to return.

I say bring back the comissioned salesperson at these places. I'll bet the attitudes would change terrifically.
