LANCASTER - Kara Beth Borden was the second girlfriend that David Ludwig took on a long-distance trip without her parents' consent this year.

Confirming a report in a Lancaster newspaper, the Rev. Michael D. Shelley, pastor of the Lititz Christian Church, said Tuesday that Ludwig took a girl to his family's hunting cabin in Juniata County in the spring.

The couple returned voluntarily, Shelley said, adding that he knows the Ludwig family well because they attend his church.

"I know the incident and I know the parents took care of it," Shelley said during a telephone interview Tuesday. "No one else [including police] were involved."

Ok, enough of this nonsense. We need to round up all of the teens who have violated our long list of rules. Please take directly to jail any teen or former teen who has ever had sex, violated curfew, tasted alcohol, lusted after a younger partner, or used questionable judgment in any way. In this day and age the risk is just too great to leave these moral degenerates running free.

What, there's no one left to guard the prisoners. /sarc

Sure, we should sit Kara down with a plate of cookies and milk and a prosecutor....

Exactly!

You could think things are go okay, then--whack--knife in the back.

Her siblings ought to be scared, too.

It's very sad, but I think Kara ends up being a stripper or something and having a screwed up life. Or doing time and then becoming a stripper and having a screwed up life.

Sorry, this was aimed more at the "someone should have known" crowd.

If they committed crimes then they should be prosecuted. This is a pretty unusual case. Lets not overreact.

its pretty clear the only two people worth a damn in this is the girls parents"

I don't know. His parents may have been trying to rein him in too. This is most likely a nightmare for them too. On one post he was very sarcastic about his "lovely parents" sending him away to college.

Frankly, I don't see how this bizarre crime could have been predicted by the Bordens or avoided so long as Kara was committed to "being with" Ludwig and Ludwig was a nut case.

The Bordens apparently had done all the things good parents do in a case like this, including taking the last step of talking directly to the boy and putting an end to it (in their minds).

Some have suggested they should have gone to Ludwig's parents, but who knows if that was viable. I guess they could have gone to the police for a restraining order (since Ludwig was likely committing some kind of statutory rape type law). But realistically they had no clue where this was going. You certainly wouldn't think your life was at risk.

I agree with you. I don't know how these parents could have known he would do something so horrible.

I've said since this happened I don't think the girl is completely innocent, maybe even helped plan the murders. I don't know why, I just have a feeling...

This case followed closely on one in Minnesota, where Matthew Niedere murdered his parents. He was enrolled in a private Christian school, and he actually recruited two other guys to assist in the crime whom he met at that religious school and another he had attended. Supposedly his biggest argument with his parents concerned his choice of churches. It's really hard to see festering evil like this, I think, but the rest of us want to know how such a thing could happen when parents try hard to do everything right.

I was hoping she didn't know that he had killed her parents ot was in shock. After her statement though, they rehersed and she's protecting him or she's gone.

At first, I wrote that I thought David must have "snapped"..boy, was I ever wrong. There were signs, as we now learn.

"This is a pretty unusual case. Lets not overreact."

Let's not underreact either.

Hasn't anyone ever heard of the term "nipped in the bud"? This guy was sending out all kinds of signals that he was TROUBLE and everyone seems to have chosen to look the other way.

But then they would have been judgemental.

He's in a place now where sarcastic will not do anything but bring on trouble.
No more free time for him, no cell phone, no lap top. Just a miserable life and a lifetime to think of what he did.

That's what I'm afraid of: that the older brothers will feel like they "have" to take her in. One is a soldier just back from Iraq. The other was bringing his girlfriend home to "meet the parents" at Thanksgiving, apparently in preparation for getting engaged.

How can they handle this situation?

The risk of harm at this point is probably to herself. She turned her back on 2 people that loved her for a man that she is never going to see again.

The police will know more when they get the cell phone records. That will tell the true story, along with records on her computer.
