We used to cook them in the garage until I saw what was happening. Now it's the yard away from the house. I don't think a regular household extinguisher could put one out.
Ellis says there are a few things to keep in mind before deciding to fry a turkey:
Do not use the fryer on or around anything that can catch fire.
Do not put too much oil in the fryer. Remember, the oil will rise when the turkey goes into the pot.
Monitor the temperature of the oil and keep it from getting too hot.
Make sure turkey is well-thawed and dry before slowly easing it into the fryer.
Anyone planning to fry a turkey this year is urged to keep a fire extinguisher nearby.
Firefighters suggest buying a deep-fried turkey from a restaurant rather than attempting to cook it at home.

I live about 30 miles north of Nashville;they`re also burning up the the country burning leaves.Had a pretty good grass fire about a mile from my farm about a hour ago.
It`s a bad drought here.Dryer than a corn cob as daddy used to say.
Many newbies don't measure the oil, over fill the pot and then put the bird in only to watch as the oil spills over and catches fire...
I wonder who's patio the fireman just ruined doing this demonstration?
