Retiree gets even, pennies at a time

KINGSTON, Ontario, Nov. 23 (UPI) -- A Canadian retiree, angry because his credit card payments are processed south of the border, got even by paying his bill a few pennies at a time.

Don Rogers of Kingston, Ontario, also hopes that his massive credit card statement will land him in the Guinness Book of World Records. He paid the bill on line in a total of 985 separate payments.

What set Rogers off is the idea of his credit card statements being available to U.S. authorities under the Patriot Act.

"Us retired guys are the most dangerous, because we have time on our hands," he said. "You have to look for the weaknesses in their system, and I think I found it."

Officials at Citizens Bank say that there are only a few places to go for processing and that they have guarantees of privacy. They also warn that if Rogers persists in his crusade his card could be canceled.

He's gonna be even more pissed when his bank hits him with a fee for excessive on-line transactions...

Ooooo......

I laugh at this. A week after his card would be "canceled", he'll have 3 new offers from that company for a new card sitting in his mailbox.

You omitted the new lower interest rate as a reward.

Even more disconcerting (to me anyway) is the fact that a lot of US accounting is being outsourced to places like India and the Far East. Doesn't that give these people an inside look at the relative profitability of every business they work with? What better way for Indian and Asian enterpreneurs to find out what businesses are the most profitable, and therefore the best bet to compete with?

Does this dim bulb think that if we do any business through The Peoples Republic of Canada that his government isn't nosing around the same way? If he wants to bitch about government intrusion, he need look no farther than his home country.

Yes, he and millions of Canuckleheads just like him believe this deeply.

Canadians are morally superior to foreigners, don't you know? Especially American-type foreigners.

The Liberal Party of Canada and its 'tame bear' NDP sidekick work the propaganda outlets 24/7 to hammer this Great Truth into Canadian heads.

We're little better than the dumbf**ks in Cuba and North Korea, but we don't have the excuse of armed oppression.

Remember, Canadians are 'afraid' of Harper's 'secret agenda'; they really are.

In my own B.C. riding, I fully expect the retiring Conservative member to be replaced by a standard-issue NDP idiot.

This guy's really going to get steamed when he finds out about the invisible ink used on the credit card statement. Black helicopters use the ink to target individuals for erasure if they are delinquent.

Doesn't he know the bankruptcy law was changed? What does he think is going to happen to all those future deadbeats? Collection? The new way is extermination! (Extermination Law not valid in all 50 states. Valid only in Canada... and only for retirees... named 'Don'.)

I wonder what cause they will find to actually cancel the card. So long as it's paid with legal tender under the terms of his card, can they cancel without facing a lawsuit?

I would be very surprised if they couldn't. The terms I read on the CC offers I get in the mail basically say that they can change the terms of the agreement anytime at their discretion.
You have the option of paying off your account and closing it, or accepting the revised terms.
