Scary Statistic: 70% of China's Waterways are Polluted !
Boxun News ^ | 11/23/05 | vanity

An official Chinese report confirms the Communist nation has managed to foul 70% of its waterways with its "work now-clean up later" policy ; and that this pollution endangers the national food supply.

We in the West are inclined to shrug; but consider this: a well-armed,highly militaristic nation, that has been expanding its operations into OUR sphere of influence is potentially a danger to us.

Factor in the possibility of large-scale famine in China, and potential danger escalates to a startling degree !

About 100 tons of chemicals in Songhua River after China accident

BEIJING, November 24 (RIA Novosti) - About 100 tons of chemicals were released into the Songhua River following an accident in a Chinese petrochemicals plant on November 13, the deputy head of the Chinese Environmental Protection Administration said Thursday. Beijing insists that it informed Russia in good time about the spill into the Songhua River, which flows out of northeast China into the Amur River on the Russian-Chinese border and on through the Khabarovsk Region.

The official said Thursday at a press conference in Beijing that the petrochemicals would not reach the Amur River for another 14 days.

Judging by current data, the level of pollution will gradually decrease, he said.

"We have informed the Russian side in detail of the current state of affairs... We believe that there is still sufficient time," he said.

A state of emergency will be declared in the Khabarovsk Region as of November 25.

Every Chinese knows that tap water =/= potable water. In fact they are astonished to see foreigners fresh off-boat might drink from tap.

To Wiz: I don't see where the 30% unpolluted waterways are located. Don't tell me they are all in occupied Tibet.

BTW, the 5th ring road in Beijing is NOT a ring.

No surprise, they have no incentive to clean up their country. (Look at Mexico.)

I've also heard from people who have been there the sky is so polluted, they can't see the stars at night, even in the countryside.

I saw stars, not many, but some

thereis a haze/smog over almost the entire area

I was south of the center of Beijing about 25 Kilometers, we had hazy days 90% of the time, sprinkled rain twice, less than 1/4 inch.

Visibility was normally only 5 miles, but was over 15 a few times, saw some mountains in the southwest a few times

I went to the great wall Oct 1, visibility was ok, not much more than 10 miles

boo dao Chern chung, fai how han!

China's glowing rivers in seven colors

Sky blue river

Green river

Purple bubbled river

If you are to buy "Made in China" food from china for the cheap cost, always have these artificial rivers in mind, with water flowing to crops from these.

There is NO threat of famine in China. Period. Ever.

You may have to eat those words, fella. People decry the death of the family farm in the USA, but it was replaced by massive scale corporate farming and trucking. The adherence to tiny subsistence farming ain't gonna help the coastal overpopulated megacities. There are no such things as "custom cutters" in China. Doesn't fit their culture. Eventually, oil shortages will break their "Farm to Market" link (at the most unfortunate time), and there will be some angry city folks.....Period.

LOL! I bet the Great Chairman Mao said those very words to his slave empire in the 1950's. Never ever? Never is a long time, chief. If I were a betting man I'd gladly take famine and the points on that bet.

Well, they can spend a few bucks on EPA and reverse the course. Better yet, they can have our EPA and we can get back our prosperity. (just kidding)
