I've also heard from people who have been there the sky is so polluted, they can't see the stars at night, even in the countryside.

I saw stars, not many, but some

thereis a haze/smog over almost the entire area

I was south of the center of Beijing about 25 Kilometers, we had hazy days 90% of the time, sprinkled rain twice, less than 1/4 inch.

Visibility was normally only 5 miles, but was over 15 a few times, saw some mountains in the southwest a few times

I went to the great wall Oct 1, visibility was ok, not much more than 10 miles
