The fan who ran onto the field during a Bengals game and took the football from Green Bay quarterback Brett Favre was placed on 14 months of probation Wednesday after pleading guilty to charges of trespassing and disorderly conduct while intoxicated.

Greg Gall of Cincinnati also was sentenced to 230 hours of community service and fined $200. While on probation, he is banned from Paul Brown Stadium and the Reds' Great American Ball Park. A charge of resisting arrest was dropped.

"We respect the judge's decision and we hope this will serve to deter similar incidents in the future," Bengals spokesman Jack Brennan said.

The 31-year-old Gall interrupted the final minute of Cincinnati's 21-14

OK Freepers - did this goofball get off the hook too easy?

Many of us have done stupid things while intoxicated (including myself) but I think this guy should have gotten something more than probation.

Community service or maybe having to sweep up after Bengals' home games.

Or was probation the right thing to do?

Opinions, comments or snide remarks - anyone?

I think if you do something completely stupid in front of a few hundred thousand people that it ought to equal a year or two in jail.

It's etched in my mind! Curtis was one tough S.O.B.

I don't think it was stupid . . . it was brilliant. And for that, he should spend some time in jail.

???? From the article:

Yes, I think he got off far too easy. NYC just passed a new law which mandates weekend jail time for perpetrators of incidents like this.

He wanted the ball, give him the ball and make him play two plays without any gear.

Damn it. I read the article too fast.

I missed the community service part.

Sorry. Remedial reading courses for me...

Maybe he had a good previous record. IMO that should earn at least one second chance for a non-violent (albeit terminally stupid) crime such as this one.

Thing like this happen in hockey games too.

However, the idiots aren't lucky enough to simply be tackled by security guards. I've never heard of anyone repeating their error.

The alcohol treatment program should have been mandatory. This guy will never make it through 14 months probation without another alcohol related problem.
What are they waiting for - a fatal car accident?

The way The Pack is playing this year, they might want to sign him up.

Sorry, Cheeseheads!

The Bengals said they have increased security since that game.

Then what was security like before 911?

Pro sports teams supposedly greatly increased security after 911. Now we hear some slob can get into a position to run onto the field, does that, and was in position to actually take a ball from the QB before any security officer was anywhere near.

This response sounds like a RAT politician came up with this spin to "increase security". "Increase sucurity? How about INITIATE security. If I were a fan at that stadium, no flunky is going to tell me "security has been increased" if this type of crap happens after 911.

I don't think it was stupid . . . it was brilliant. And for that, he should spend some time in jail.

Why is it that the word "brilliant" is almost exclusively used to describe things that are really stupid? I don't think I've ever seen a "brilliant" movie that didn't absolutely suck.

I kinda think he got plenty.

The fine could have been a little higher I guess , since he probably got screwed out of $100 bucks for the ticket $60.00 for 12 beers and $12.00 for two hot dogs $18.00 for parking.

The price of two tickets is a bit trivial. $1,000 sounds more in the park.

Possibly because the word suggests something else that is rare and fleeting. Sublime, if you will. This man was inspired.

The article ends with:

"But in Tampa, a judge issued a temporary injunction stopping the searches at Bucs home games until a lawsuit filed by the American Civil Liberties Union of Florida is resolved. The suit, on behalf of Bucs season ticket-holder Gordon Johnston, says the searches violate his constitutional rights because they were "invasive without necessity.""
