If it helps, Ruger did create a variant of the Mini-14/Mini-30 that fires 7.62X51 NATO, but they never brought it to market. Too bad. It is a pretty good design. The main failing of those two rifles is a very thin barrel that differentially heats after about 5 rounds. The consequence is vertical stringing of the point of impact.

My bad - Mini-30 is x39mm, not x51mm.
