I can confirm that response time for San Diego City PD. I heard banging and pounding on my front door at 1:30 AM. My dogs were going crazy and the pounding still didn't stop. I removed my .357 mag from the 5-button safe and called 911. Just over 15 minutes later I received a call from the PD dispatch. The officers arrived and found a very large dog pounding away at my front door. I returned the .357 to the safe, opened the door and thanked the officers for the response.
If the party pounding at the door had been a human burglar, the sequence of events may have turned out very differently. Still, the response was far too slow for me to discard the option of having my firearm at the ready if the intruder managed to get past the locked doors and dogs.
How does a dog "pound"? And where did the dog's owner run to when he saw the police approaching?
