Yanking out the South?

Are Southerners really more hospitable than other Americans? Does family really count for more down South? Are depth of faith, loyalty to home, reverence for history and sense of place identifiably ''Southern'' traits?

Having grown up in the South, then lived in the Midwest, and now the Northeast, I'd have to say, "YES".

In other words, the "good" (conservative) yankees are moving down here. It HAS to be, because TN has had a HUGE influx of folks from up north and out west, and we're still just as much a red state as ever, if not more so.

Exactly! Conservative 'yankees' are moving south in search of like-minded people, because living with liberals here in New England make us want to puke. I moved to east Tennessee five years ago, and let me tell you...it was great to come out on the WINNING TEAM for once on the first Tuesday of November...that NEVER happened in New England. On the down side...we came back to New England last year so "one of us" could be closer to family. Bad mistake. We are heading BACK to east Tennessee next spring...even SHE can't wait! :-)

Having grown up in the Detroit area - it's hard for me to have sympathy for Southeners complaining about Yankee "immigration". We had more than 50 years of Southerners coming here to take jobs in the auto industry. We "Yankees" didn't bad-mouth Southeners nearly as much as the Southerner's now bad-mouth Yankees.

Another is to tell Yankees that possums are Southern rats. Yeah, the warmer climate and slow, easy living of the South allows them to get so big....;-)

But no one is fleeing the South to live in the enlightened cesspools the wonderful Yankees have created.

I've noticed that, as well. While living in east Tennessee; I saw plenty of cars with 'Yankee' plates on them. On the other hand...I RARELY see 'southern' cars here in New England...even in the summer. Southerners don't even want to VACATION in the enlightened cesspools Yankees have created; much less live in them.

On my 2nd day in NC at born and raised native informed me that "the niggers in NC are different than the ones you got up north. Our niggers are trained."

The statistics need to be broken out along age/race/region/religious lines to get a feel for what is going on. The grandchildren of the Wallace voters are not the ones drving up the illegitimacy rates, the divorce rates, etc.

Perhaps this is a lame attempt to try and say "illegal aliens are no different than legal residents from one region moving to another region."

In other words, when new people come to a neighborhood, the old residents complain.

I have a southern accent, and during my two years in FL(moved back to TX in May), I was made fun of more often than I could tollorate. Even the FL locals are developing a NY accent.
All I hear of NY is how great it is, so why the hell do so many of them want to move south?
