Iraq's Talabani says Iran promises support against insurgents [Fox Gaurding Hen House ALERT]

From AFX via Forbes:

TEHRAN - Iraqi President Jalal Talabani wrapped up a landmark visit to neighbouring Iran today, saying he had won promises of support for his bid to end the insurgency ravaging his country. 'Iran is interested in our security just as it is interested in its own security. We should use all means to establish security in Iraq,' Talabani said as he was seen off by Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.

Talabani is the first Iraqi head of state to visit Iran since the late 1960s. He said he had received pledges of support in his closed-door talks with Ahmadinejad and Iran's supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

Khamenei told Talabani that foreign troops were the cause of violence and that Iraqi authorities should demand a timetable for a pull-out.

'The Islamic Republic of Iran holds the American government responsible for the suffering of the Iraqi people and all the crimes and assassinations now being committed in Iraq,' Khamenei was quoted as saying by official media.

'The presence of foreign troops is damaging for the Iraqis, and the Iraqi government could ask for their departure by proposing a timetable,' Khamenei asserted, adding that 'the US and Britain will eventually have to leave Iraq with a bitter experience.'...

For the record, I do not like Talabani. He has been a little too close to Iran in the recent past.

With all the evidence of Iranian support to include terrorists and ordinance flooding into Iraq to kill it´s citizens Talibani has to be the epitome of a real idiot to believe this bullshit.

The entire current Iraqi government is beset with this stupidity, that is why I am really hoping Allawi is back as PM after next months elections.

Here's a dose of reality. The Iraqi Shiites are going to look to the Shiite nation of Iran to protect them as the US withdraws its forces. And who can blame them? It's human nature to look for strong allies, and Iran will always be there right next door.

This is all too funny. Why can't people see that even events like this summit with Iran prove that WE WON!!

Even the Iranians are now acknowledging that the elected Talibani government is the legitimate government of Iraq. For those not too blind to see it, this means we have affected what was called regime change. The underlying principle of the insurgency is that the elected government is illegitimate because it came about as a result of American intervention. Not even Iran is backing that position now.

Take a bow America, especially the military. You've done it again.

Iran never claimed that the government of Iraq is illegitimate. It was the first government in the region to recognize it, because it knows that all its guerrilla buddies from the '80s are going to be the ones in charge.

As for your "We Won" blather, what exactly did we win? We turned two countries that were mutual enemies and had been stalemating each other for twenty years into bosom buddies and the new regional superpower.

Exactly. In this regard Iran is very much like Syria. Both are sending fighters and weapons accross the border. The difference is you will not see Talibani cozying up with Assad. Theres logic for ya...
