Here's a dose of reality. The Iraqi Shiites are going to look to the Shiite nation of Iran to protect them as the US withdraws its forces. And who can blame them? It's human nature to look for strong allies, and Iran will always be there right next door.
Even the Iranians are now acknowledging that the elected Talibani government is the legitimate government of Iraq. For those not too blind to see it, this means we have affected what was called regime change. The underlying principle of the insurgency is that the elected government is illegitimate because it came about as a result of American intervention. Not even Iran is backing that position now.
