War protest resuming despite Sheehan's delay to Crawford

CRAWFORD, Texas -- War opponents say their protest near President Bush's ranch will resume this week although the fallen soldier's mother who led a 26-day vigil this summer will arrive later than planned.

Cindy Sheehan of Berkeley, Calif., has a family emergency and is scheduled to arrive Friday in time for the dedication of the Camp Casey Memorial Garden at the Crawford Peace House. It is named for her 24-year-old son who died in Iraq last year.

Other peace activists have been arriving in Crawford and plan to return Wednesday to the roadside where Sheehan set up camp in August. They say they expect to be arrested, because in September county commissioners enacted two ordinances banning roadside parking within a 7-mile radius of Bush's ranch and prohibiting camping in any county ditch.

On Monday, three protesters filed a federal lawsuit against McLennan County, claiming the ordinances limit their free speech rights.

The demonstrators say they are returning to protest the war with Iraq to coincide with Bush's Thanksgiving ranch visit and that the county ordinances will not stop them.

"Our holidays will never be the same, so we want him to remember that," Sheehan's sister Dede Miller, who has already arrived in Crawford, told The Associated Press on Tuesday.

Protesters will hold a Thanksgiving meal and other activities on the same private 1-acre lot that a sympathetic landowner let them use for several weeks of the August protest. An anti-war rally is planned for Saturday in a downtown Crawford park and an interfaith service is planned for Sunday.

Sheehan's summer protest drew thousands but also spurred counter-protests of Bush supporters who said she was hurting troop morale. Bill Johnson, who started a pro-Bush camp beside his downtown Crawford souvenir shop in August, said he will hold a pro-Bush rally at the same site Saturday.

"Our goal is to get our story out because she'll get her story out," Johnson said Tuesday. "We see things differently than she does."

I think that's exactly what happened; I'll ping a few people for the details.

I think so, but I have been so out of the loop for the past few months, I am not positive about the facts; somebody will be right along with them, I am sure.

And I am a "buddette." :-)

This Just In:

Cindy Sheehan is on a plane to Crawford, Texas. She is sitting in the first class section, but her ticket says that she should be in the coach section. A flight attendant realizes Mother Sheehan’s mistake and asks her politely to move. Cindy won't move. All she says is, "I'm Cindy Sheehan, I'm famous, and I'm going to Crawford."

The flight attendant goes and tells all of the other flight attendants. They all try to persuade the Mother Sheehan to move, but she won't move. All she says is, "I'm Cindy Sheehan, I'm famous, and I'm going to Crawford."

The flight attendants go and tell the pilot about the obnoxious boob from Berkley. They tell him the only thing that she says. He puts the plane on auto-pilot and whispers something in mom’s ear.

Immediately, she gets up and moves to her normal seat. Then the pilot goes back to fly the plane. The flight attendants are all very curious about how the pilot made the blonde move so quickly.

They ask him and he says, "Oh, it was easy. All I had to do was tell her that the first class section wasn't going to Texas!"

Weed is communal. If one person has some, they will usually share it with those around them. Many of these folks sell a bit or grow a bit just supply themselves/afford to purchase for themselves. Others are more entrepreneurial and *do* these events as a *vendor*.

In every Progressive group, there exists pressure on the affluent to fund *scholarships* or *grants* for others who otherwise couldn't afford it. I have heard that now some students can arrange some *life credits* in some departments for attending political events. Back in the day, such an absence in an art class, or a political science class would probably be forgiven as long as any work due was handed in or tests taken at the makeup date.

If you work for an NGO or nonprofit, you are not only paid for these events, they are part of your job.

At the top of the heap, you have the trust babies. They routinely pour millions into all these ventures. They have parents, siblings, in-laws and friends and they exert pressure on them. Indeed, in some circles the wealthy activists are expected to lead by example and the rest gratefully follow that lead in order not to have to pay any real attention to what it is all about.

I can't take credit for the pic...I think Lady Jag may have posted it originally on some Sheehan thread.

Funny as hell, though!

We went out there in August for the Support Our Troops rally, and I wondered when I saw the Sheehanite camp. Lots of money went into supporting it. Big convention tents, catered meals, crates of supplies being trucked in, etc. I don't know where it came from. Where does Code Pink get their money? I would like to know.

Did I make it too faint, my name on the lower left?

I was tempted to animate this one, too, but decided it wouldn't be postable, so I merely clarified it. :)

I understand that loosing a son or daughter is a devestating event. I have a son, active duty army. One in the Marine Reserves, a son-in-law in the Marine Reserves, 2 Nephews, Active Duty Marines, as Husband, Father, Brother all who have retired from the Military and lastly, a father-in-law who was killed in action in Vietnam. I have had my share of fear, concern, sorrow and grief.
My family members have dealt with wounds and death from Vietnam, Desert Storm, African Rioting, Afganistan, and Iraq, through all the uncertainty......one mature truth rang through........these courageous individuals were there to serve their country and thier family and they did so, knowingly and with knowledge that they may never come back.
My boys, knew, when they signed that dotted line, that they were enlisting in the United States Military. The Military is not a temporary commitment, it is a life long, possible life ending commitment. This young man was 24 years old, and enlisted of his own free will. I am proud of his service to this country and others just like him.
I am saddened for his mother, but at the same time angry that she is trying to blame a person who speaks for majority of the people.
President Bush was re-elected, even with his proclomation that he would not pull the troops out of IRAQ anytime soon. His Running Mate....on the othe hand proclaimed to object to the War and wanted the boys home, stating we should not have gone. America had the choice....and they chose.
My son's are employed by the American People, they chose to face that commitment of their own free will. If they should die for their country...I will grieve....but my grief will not be directed at the President, for I would never dishonor thier commitment to something they believed in enough to lay down thier life.

Cindy Sheehan of Berkeley, Calif., has a family emergency

I'll say! One huge emergency - the rest of them probably don't want her around over Thanksgiving!
