Hawk crashed through window
Peder Hansen was relaxing at home, listening to some music over the weekend, when his peace literally was shattered by a bang and splintering glass. A fully grown hawk, flying at high speed, crashed through his veranda window and landed on his living room floor.
"What a surprise!" the 69-year-old fisherman in northern Norway told newspaper VG on Monday. "There was glass all over the room. And in the middle of the room stood this gorgeous bird."
The hawk wasn't injured and immediately started making himself at home, proving to be a messy houseguest in the process.
"First he flapped his wings and hopped under a table," Hansen said. "I ran down to my son. When I came back, the bird had gone into the kitchen, where it tore down and tipped over all kinds of things."
Claw in the arm
Hansen, who lives at Sommarøy outside Tromsø, finally got hold of the hawk and hung on to him with one hand. "I was a bit careless, though, and suddenly the bird had bored his claws into the arm I had free," Hansen said. "I had to pull the biggest claw out of my arm."
He then donned a heavy coat and thick gloves before handling the hawk again. He took the hawk into his bathroom and placed him in a covered plastic basket. It didn't take long, though, before the hawk managed to free himself.
Hansen finally got the large bird into a cardboard box. "I thought maybe the wildlife authorities would like to have a look at it," he said. On Sunday afternoon, Hansen released the hawk from the veranda of his house.
Has happened before
Ornithologist Karl-Birger Strann said he's heard of other occasions where birds of prey have crashed through windows into buildings. "Just like smaller birds, a hawk will see through the window but not see the glass," he said. "A small bird won't get through, but a large bird flying at high speed hits the window with great force.
"It doesn't happen often, but I've heard of other cases where birds of prey have gone through folks' windows."
I liked this story about your contry better.

Student's killer gets 15 years
A 36-year-old asylum seeker from Somalia, who was found guilty of raping and murdering a female student at a college in Sogndal last year, was sentenced Friday to 15 years in prison.
Sogndal student Hedda Karterudseter was strangled last autumn.

Hassan Samriye Hashin had admitted the murder. An appeals court also found him guilty of raping 19-year-old Hedda Karterudseter at Sogndal Folkehøyskole on October 28, 2004.
Hashin had followed Karterudseter home to her student apartment and admitted strangling her in a fit of jealousy. He denied raping her.
He had been sentenced to 16 years in prison by a lower court, which also found him guilty of both murder and rape. The maximum prison term in Norway is 21 years.
A Håk ønce byt mi syster.
If the murder and rape of a young girl only gets one fifteen years, what must one do to get the maximum of 21 years?
..target fixation

Ah, Kurt look at it this way. Better a hawk in the home than a suicide bomber on the loose.
And it may get cold there but Norwegians are not setting cars on fire to stay warm.
:-)

Say that homosexuality is wrong.
Hawks crashing through Windows? I bet this would never happen with an Apple... It's Bill Gates' fault!
Brag about it on DU?
I live near a park, and have large windows in the front and back of my home. We get "bird hits" about 5-6 times a year. Fortunately for me, they are finches and swallows. The hawks around here don't come near the house.
I can imagine the mess that would make.
Yah, that was nasty stuff! You know; I'm a law student and 2 weeks ago I was on an excursion to the pathological institute of forensic medicine in Bergen, where I live, and I actually saw pictures from the crime scene of that murder! Horrible pictures.. one of the female students fainted and two others had to leave the room...
I have never had a bird break a window..but I have placed stunned birds through the years in a box, outside, to recover from their run in with the window at full speed..They recover and fly off. A hawk in the house would be a shocker!
Am I right? Huh?! Huh?
Whew. Tough crowd.
It's the CIA --
These days, they just cannot tell
their ups from their downs . . .
I was looking for a picture of him against "that team up north".
the maximum sentance is reserved only for the most extreme crimes... yeah I know, it's lame... But we have a custody-arrangement that allow us to keep the worst ones locked up for ever ;)
me too...
I haven't been able to find any....
I have found a bunch of Tony Gonzalez and Troy Smith though....
