I guess the UN isn't interested in the Chinese practice of executing prisoners in order to harvest their organs.

China abuses prisoners, gets praised. US goes out of its way to treat prisoners well and gets lambasted for a few isloated incidents of prison abuse. Orwell wouldn't be proud, but he wouldn't be surprised either.

Of course China's jails are bad. If jail was good everybody would want to go to jail.

Torture is not good. But after hearing what some people in the U.S. are calling torture, perhaps that needs to be defined.

I think only harsh conditions in China jail would be called torture by U.S. jail standards. Actually, taking away coffee and televisions for U.S. prisoners I hear some people in the U.S. are calling torture.

One thing for sure, China is safe to walk at night in most cities so if you do not break the law then you do not need to worry so much.

China needs something closer to what Singapore has. English rule of law but strong sentencing. The U.S. could sure use more difficult jails. Don't you think?
