Wonder why no one's mentioned Charles Starkweather and Caril Fugate's little romp in Nebraska and Wyoming in 1958?

It sounds exactly like the same thing, only they caught this murderous SOB before he could go on a killing spree like Starkweather did (killed 11, I think).

It's been mentioned on several of the threads. It's one of the first things that came to my mind, too--that shows my age, doesn't it?

I sure wouldn't want to be the relative taking care of this girl. The fact that she left her parents to die is all I need to know. For me, Ludwig's "influence" stopped when she knew her parents were shot, bleeding, dying.

Yes, I agree. All the influence should have left her when she saw her parents dead from gunshot wounds. Even if she were in shock, at some point it should have hit her. But she went willingly. Pity the relative who gets to care for her. They must be thinking 'that could be me' when as the relatives attend the funeral of her parents. I can't imagine how horrible it must be for Kara's siblings, especially the 9 year old.

Wonder if she's grieving over her parents or over her boyfriend?

Not mentally mature though. Not many have definite ideas about what kind of future they'd like. If they do, it's almost always unrealistic. Boys who always want to be pro athletes or some other kind of big shot are in for a rude awakening when they're older. And girls wanting to be mommies, cuz babies are just so cute, like big dollies only living, get a big pie in the face when they find out how hard it is to be a parent. And what if they have a handicapped child? That's not something many anticipate. Teenagers tend to live in a dream world. A 14 year old is just clueless! In this case, she was brain dead.

Wonder if she's grieving over her parents or over her boyfriend?

It doesn't seem as if she's grieving over either, at least not yet. And given her remarks, it seems as if the choice would be grief over the boyfriend and the lost 'new life'.

Their testimonies about what happened that day seem almost gleeful, sort of pleased with the results, like they planned in advance to support each others stories. She says she went willingly. As though to say to bystanders, yes, I'm with him. And he blatantly, and without emotion it seems, admits he shot them both and intended to kill them. They strike me, at this point, as both seeming defiant in their plan, and they've 'stuck together', corroborated each others stories. No tearful regrets or turning on each other. That lends a whole new cold dimension to the murders. Are the authorities considering premeditation? Even though they won't be running off together to start a new life, it seems they are almost happy with this new life, jailed separately, but accomplishing the goal of getting rid of her parents who dared to try to stand in their way. Very cold.

My opinion, this girl is too selfish to grieve for anyone other than the young man. I read an article about him getting in trouble in Hawaii, this was an incident with a girl. The writer said he uses Christianity to lure girls.

Kara was determined to show them who was boss. This guy was just the means to that end.

I think Ludwig was in control (except of himself). She followed him because she loved him, not because she hated her parents. I think he killed the parents because he could not get her to elope and he was enraged. Somehow, he dismissed the fact that he was slamming the door on their future harder than Mr. Borden ever could.

Don't make the mistake of thinking these two are utterly evil. They both look like they are in shock and Kara probably feels responsible although I don't think a case could be made legally. I do think that Ludwig can and does expect to forfeit his life for his bloodthirst.
