A Nike corporate jet is preparing to make an emergency landing at the Portland International Airport with landing gear problems, according to airport officials.
Seven people are on board the jet, but their names have not been released, according to Steve Johnson with PDX. The jet is most commonly used by Nike's senior exectives.
The plane took off from Hillsboro earlier Monday en route to Toronto, Canada, and was supposed to land in Portland at 9:15 a.m. The landing gear only went down half way and then got stuck, Johnson said.
Authorities have closed Marine Drive, between 33rd and 122nd Avenues, as a precaution.
The pilot was still circling the Portland airport to burn fuel as of 9:43 a.m. This is common practice in an emergency landing situation, to cut back on the risk of fire.
The jet is a Gulf Stream G-5, according to Johnson.
Praying for thier safe landing.
Here we go again.... we've been lucky with these lately...
Fox news head talking about applying lubrication that would make sliding easier?
My husband had the same thing happen to him during a test flight last week. Fortunately his gear finally dropped and he landed safely.
Prayers for all on board.

Why don't they just call Michael Jordan and have him jump up and bring the plane down?
Bttt
Can they hand crank or pump the LG into locking position?
I noticed that the inner wheel well cover ( or whatever they call it) is down on the right side but not on the left.
My guess is the cover is up at takeoff, comes down, wheel retracts, cover retracts.
Perhaps the right cover did not come down before the right gear tried to retract.

14 CFR Part 91: General Aviation
Incident occurred Monday, November 21, 2005 in Hillsboro, OR
Aircraft: Gulfstream Aerospace G-5, registration: N225GV
Injuries: 7 Uninjured.
This is preliminary information, subject to change, and may contain errors. Any errors in this report will be corrected when the final report has been completed.
On November 21, 2005, at approximately 0600 Pacific standard time, a Gulfstream Aerospace, G-5, N225GV, was not damaged following a right main landing gear door sequencing failure near Portland-Hillsboro Airport (KHIO), Hillsboro, Oregon. The airline transport pilot, the airline transport co-pilot, the cabin attendant, and four passengers were not injured. Nike Inc. was operating the flight under Title 14 CFR Part 91. Visual meteorological conditions prevailed for the cross-country business flight which was originating at the time of the event. An IFR flight plan had been activated.
The pilot said that as they raised the landing gear on the initial takeoff, the right main gear door did not retract. He said that the checklist instructed him to cycle the landing gear; when he cycled the landing gear, the right main became jammed in the half down position. The pilot performed a low fly-by, and maintenance personnel on the ground photographed the bottom of the airplane. Gulfstream Aerospace engineers reviewed the photograph and advised the pilot in how to extend the landing gear. Six hours and ten minutes after takeoff, the airplane landed successfully.
