This just tickles me to no end. I would have loved to see the two thugs running out of the house! God Bless Mr. and Mrs. Carpenter!

Bolt action shotgun. Very rare.

Of course if you live in S.F., the odds are we probably don't need them in the gene pool anyway.

Wonder if this will be picked up by the SF papers?
By the way, I had an old Mosberg 20 gauge as a youngen, worthless except to scare bad guys

One of my brothers owned one, don't know if he still has it, it was a Mossberg. Do you know if anyone else ever made one?

Not sure. Mossberg did make BA shotguns, as I recall.
I'm sure some other Freepers will answer the question shortly!

Didn't they have trouble feeding shells into the breech?

It had a two shot magazine, very hard to load, and no balance. Mine sent a couple of rabbits to bunny heaven but I think they really died of fright

Long live the Carpenters!

I've noticed that many of the home defense stories are about the elderly. The thug element will watch and prey on the people in belief that are weak. With out a firearm in the house they might as well not even use the door locks. I wonder what the Brady people are going to do when they get old and scared.

Damn good thing the Dear Carpenters do not live in Detroit. O, that is right, Detroit just came out on the list of "Most Dangerous cities in America" second only to Camden, NJ. Both have banned guns in the hands of good Americans!
Can we all see the differences?

I had the 3 shot 16 gauge years ago. It was very cheap, and the adjustable choke was kind of interesting.
To: rightinthemiddle
not rare at all. I own several.including a 16 gauge.

Nice work, Mr. Carpenter! Too bad the perps got away, though. May I recommend upgrading to one of the Mossberg 500 series of 7 round, short barreled pump shotguns in a gauge of your preference. Nothing says "Get the F... out of my house!" quite like the action on a pump shotgun!

My first gun was a Stevens single-shot .410. Great for varmits around the place.
I was 9. Haven't shot anybody with it. Yet.
