Rheinmetall in Germany makes our current tank guns. We don't have any tech like it, and they're NOT going to move the tech to the US. So, what you're saying is, don't buy the best for the troops, buy whatever we make in the US even if it's greatly inferior.

In terms of the electronic components a phase in to 100% could be accomplished through the steady tariffing of the imported components until it becomes cheaper to make them here than import them. They go where the profit is, and some profit is better than no profit. The electronic components is the primary problem when it comes to missiles. Most missile bodies and warheads are US made of US design.

Part of winning the contract for the tank guns specified we'd buy an initial batch directly from Rheinmetall followed by un-restricted liscence production in the US. All tank guns currently made for US tanks are US made.

It has nothing to do with inferior, and everything to do with cost. Most of what's made overseas is because the companies that make them get massively higher profits overseas than here.

What's disgusting is the inherently anti-Founding Father, anti-US security outsourcing overseas and all of the unnecessary dependencies it creates. All in the name of greater profit margins. Plus the massive rise in Chinese military power that it is fueling.
