George Galloway has defended his praise of President Bashar al-Assad of Syria, following a recent trip to the country.
The MP for Bethnal Green said the president was a "breath of fresh air" after decades of dictatorship.
Syria has been criticised for its human rights record and been accused of links to terrorism in recent years - which the country strenuously denies.
During his recent trip Mr Galloway hailed the Syrian president - whose regime has faced accusations over the assassination of Lebanese Premier Rafik Hariri - as the "last Arab leader".

I thought this piece of limey crap was going to jump on the first plane he could to face his accusers in Congress regarding his role in the oil for food scandal?
Galloway's a nut!
I wonder if he asked for Saddam's WMD's?
Hard times for "Gorgeous George" Bashar can't afford to pay like Saddam.
Hey George...Syria has very little oil.
This guy deserves to be made a honorary Democrat.
He has all the credentials.
The lines between good and evil are really getting quite clearly defined.
Now, THIS, is a traitor!
Georgie needs to have an accident.
Galloway is Britain's answer to our Cynthia Mckinnon
Last time Georgie endorsed a ME dictator that dictator ended up getting invaded and losing his whole country. Ferret boy should take notice.
I have a dream--George Galloway,Cindy Sheehan,Michael Moore,and Barbra Streisand together forever on a desert island,forever.
Personally, I hope that changes soon... I WANT these assholes looking over their shoulder.....and THINKING before they speak attack us.
Semper Fi
Galloway probably has a healthy amount of Saddam cash now, though, and I daresay the cost of living in Syria is probably pretty low.
I've done some research and Yahoo! finance doesn't even allow us to convert the US dollar to the Syrian pound. A typical CEO in Syria makes 10 million Syrian Pounds a year but I have no clue what that is except that it's probably a lot less than it seems.
(I figure ol' George wants to live like a CEO so using the CEO's salary is appropriate).
So I really can't tell how much Galloway might have already in Syrian pounds, but I have a feeling it's a lot, and with the aid of Syria's dictator he'll live just fine.
Or at least he could, if the dictator accepts him into the fold.
D
Put down the bong, George.
Bashir should proudly hold his chin up high with such praise.
Look what happened when he praised Saddam.
