During the opening ceremony of the World Summit on the Information Society in Tunis on Wednesday, delegates from across the globe were amazed when the Swiss president, Samuel Schmid, directly criticised Tunisia for its policy of restricting free speech.

Next thing you know they will put Libya in charge of Human Rights. . . Oh, they already did that. . .
A friend just returned from this conference. He thought they'd be satisified with the bone we threw them, which is that they get to have some sort of meeting and make suggestions about Internet governance.
How about a "Women's Conference" in China? Just think of the little girls who didn't get a chance to attend. Thank heaven Hillary did, and failed to note the glaring truth publicly.

Bottom line this is a stupid debate because the means to control of the Internet and the model of the control is already in place... THE Internet rides on the tel com (phone system) backbone in and out of there countries... Internet traffic from the physical layers perspective is the same as any other phone traffic and can be regulated and controlled the same as any other phone call traffic
You don't like the Internet traffic coming in and out of you country...fine put you own servers in you ITMC(International Tramission Management Centers) open the Data Packet, block what you want, change the protocol and translate the routing any way you want for you own in country data networks ... we already do this in voice and data calls now to let different network with different protocols work with each other
You dont like out Internet invent your own and put you own Internet interface "Gateway" (that you control) at your countrys border
I would have preferred not to throw them a bone.
I agree completely. This permits them to preserve their organizational infrastructure and await a compliant adminstration to arrive on the scene. They'll be poised to take immediate action, and only have to win once. We have to win every time.
