For how many years have we heard that the merchants were taking Christ out of Christmas and thereby causing the season of Advent to be ignored.
Now that the merchants want to be totally godless, we may now resume our liturgical observances, non-distracted by commercialism.
Looks like we've won!
That is, unless we Christians have been corrupted by the godless commercialism of the "season."

You'll get the "Merry Christmas" greeting, and even Christian/Christmas music while you shop. They carry tons of stuff, from furniture, to home decor, to craft/hobby stuff. If you cannot find a gift for your loved one there, you're totally lost. Merry CHRISTmas!
They sure don't mind making money off of something they attempt to deny, though.

It isn't the idea a person needs a tree to celebrate Christmas, it is the idea that the word Christmas is considered a "bad" word
It's the Christ in Christmas they dont like
I was speaking to people who donate and then tell others that is their gift, whether the giftee supports the cause or not. In that case it really isn't a gift. It's an excuse for the person to support their own cause. Now if you know someone who volunteers for something and know they would appreciate the support going to their group then it would be a gift.

I hate the way they won't call Christmas by it's name...
But for almost 100 year the Sears Christmas catalog was called the Wish Book so I can see how they chose that theme.
I really wonder if it's just a business decision to sucker in non-Christian customers into the shopping frenzy.

There are Christmas trees placed by the Salvation Army in Kmarts. Customers are invited to place gifts under those trees. The gifts are later dispersed by the SA to poor in the community.

My wife leaves the nativity scenes out all year.
Yes, I said plural.
We have one that is an antique from her grandmother.
We have one we bought at a department store.
Another I bought at an auction.
Two we got at a Dollar store...one is cermaic and is small enough to fit in a large human hand...the other is crystal and has a mirrored base.
Last year, I bought nativity ornaments for everyone who came over to the house on Christmas (we invite everyone who has no place to go, similar to our Thanksgiving Day feast), and we kept one of them.
I started doing stained glass this year and our front door now has a Bethlehem scene that is permanent. I added Calvary and hope to add the Empty Tomb and the Return in the Clouds to it.
