I CANNOT BELIEVE REP. JEAN SCHMIDT WAS FORCED TO APOLOGIZE FOR QUOTING A MARINE!

Posted on 11/18/2005 4:16:30 PM PST by MikeA

Forgive the vanity, but I just heard that Rep. Jean Schmidt, the newest Republcan congresswoman from Ohio, had to withdraw her remarks in the debate about the bill about withdrawl from Iraq. She was merely quoting a Marine who wrote her and said of Democratic appeaesment "Cowards cut and run. Marines finish the job." Why on earth would she be made to apologize for this? She was not directly calling anyone cowards, but these Democrats are most assuredly that for their emerging cut and run policy on Iraq.

It's amazing, Democrats can make the most outrageous comments attacking the president on the floor of the House accusing the president of lying to get America into war and other such slanders, but Schmidt quotes a Marine far better than any of those low lives on the Democratic side and she's made to apologize?? Nancy Piglosi regularly makes the most ugly and vile accusations against the president and never is she called to account for it.

Amazing, even when the Republicans finally go bare knuckles against these Scumbagcrats, still the Republicans act like wussies and back down from saying what should be said. Heck, what Schmidt said is the least that should be said against these Rats. We should be on the floor calling them seditious liars emboldening our enemies and causing our allies in Iraq to doubt our staying power which will only prolong how long it takes to hand over security to the Iraqis.

Why is it wrong to quote a Marine who is dead-on accurate but okay to take to the floor of the House like Murtha did and give a morale boost to our enemies who today celebrated their big moral and political victories in Congress this week by blowing up Shiites in their mosques and setting off car bombs across Bagdhad. Why is it wrong to call them on this and lay the blood spilt today at their feet? Why is decorum more important than standing up to people bluntly and candidly who advocate for things that will greatly damage American security? Why is it wrong to expose them for what they are but Murtha is worshipped as a hero for giving a tremendous energy boost to our enemies while demoralizing our troops and our allies in Iraq? When will anyone ask Murtha what the cost will be when we're forced to go back into Iraq if we retreat now to end the rogue, Al Qaeda regime that will take over there and turn Iraq into another Afghanistan?

We're living in a topsy-turvy country right now where right is considered wrong and wrong considered right. And we have few moral voices to speak up against it. And when they do, they're swatted down even by members of their own party. Our republic is in jeopardy my friends.

She impressed me. Thanks, Jean. You said something all real Americans were already thinking. Took some guts.

Her message might have had truth to it, but the manner in which she delivered it, as well as the backdrop of a serious debate makes this event a black mark on her record. She was never congressional material before she narrowly won her seat and this only shows her incapability to be a member of Congress. For example, at a local Republican picnic, before a military member was to speak, she discussed how we should have pity on the animal victims of Hurricane Katrina! That is nice and all but not something a member of Congress should have as a top item of discussion. In conclusion, the content of her statement is unarguably correct. Her judgment in delivering that statement only elaborates on how she is not congressional material.

It reminded me of the typical lawyer trick before the jury - of getting evidence in, then the judge admonishes the jury to disregard the information and the lawyer says "oh, I am so sorry your honor". I have never heard of her before that news story........my congresscritter is maurice hinchey who voted "present"........at least she knows how to vote. I will be curious to see if I ever hear of her again. Feel free to ping me to stories on her. Sounds like she will be interesting to watch.

I saw that too and I'm totally outraged! Marines are not cowards and they do not cut and run.

God bless you, our brave men and women in the armed forces!

No body will make me apoligize for speaking the truth.

She defeated turncoat disloyal scum Hackett who was General Discharge from Military for Section 8 that ran for her office. She already has record of defending country from cowards who turn and run like Murtha.

I think a point needs to be made...

Murtha WAS a MARINE. He is now a DEMOCRAT CONGRESSMAN!

As a Congressman, he is advocating withdrawal. As a Marine, he is voting to support the troops.

Two different positions for a man and a democrat. It is their problem, not mine.

"Schmidt's chief of staff, Barry Bennett, said the congresswoman may have mentioned Murtha by name but she was referring to Murtha's call to bring U.S. troops home - not Murtha himself."

And that is clear by listening to the remarks. But Democrats ALWAYS want to play the victim and claim they're being attacked personally (even as they cast the most vile aspertions imaginable on the president) when clearly she was referring to our nation being cowardly if we were to cut and run. How could Murtha cut and run? That doesn't make any sense.

Frankly, it's Murtha who should be apologizing for emboldening our enemies in Iraq and sending the message to our allies there that you best not get too involved with the Americans because we're going to bail out on you soon. Murtha has probably set back our ability to leave Iraq by at least 6 months through fewer recruits to the Iraqi army and police and through fewer people being willing to cooperate with coalition forces.

Schmidt has nothing to apologize for. This vile pig Murtha is the one who should be down on his hands and knees apologizing to me and every other American. I don't give a crap if he was a Marine or if he St. Francis of Assisi. What he said was wrong, harmful to US policy and downright stupid. And his having been in Vietnam mitigates none of that.

She said the marine told her to give Murtha a message. He said he didn't. So one of them is lying.

Murtha's old age must have affected his memory. He needs a little reminder of the stuff Marines are made of.

· For over 221 years our Corps has done two things for this great Nation.  We make Marines, and we win battles.  [Gen. Charles C. Krulak, USMC (CMC); 5 May 1997]

· Some people spend an entire lifetime wondering if they made a difference in the world.  But, the Marines don't have that problem.  [Ronald Reagan, U.S. President; 1985]

· Marines I see as two breeds, Rottweilers or Dobermans, because Marines come in two varieties, big and mean, or skinny and mean.  They're aggressive on the attack and tenacious on defense.  They've got really short hair and they always go for the throat.  [RAdm. "Jay" R. Stark, USN; 10 November 1995]

· Being ready is not what matters. What matters is winning after you get there. [Lieutenant General Victor H. Krulak, USMC, April 1965.]

· People sleep peaceably in their beds at night only because rough men stand ready to do violence on their behalf." [GEORGE ORWELL]

· So they've got us surrounded, good! Now we can fire in any direction, those b*****ds won't get away this time! [CHESTY PULLER, USMC]

Oh how cares? The essence of the message was that cowards don't cut and run and the Marine doesn't deny he said that. That is wasn't directed to Murtha is inconsequential. Save your moral outrage for Murtha's enemy emboldening "Let's surrender message." Or do the DUers approve of that one?

If the above statement was true, another word would not be spoken on the congressional floor for a hundred years.

You really didn't type that with a straight face, did you?

I really don't think this "lie" was of any consequence, no. And I don't know what the conversation was nor do you such that you can claim to know that she didn't take away from it that this Marine was speaking to Murtha and all those advocating cut and run. Perhaps that's how it seemed to her. Not everything is as cut and dry as "she lied, he told the truth." You don't know what was said and how it was taken.

Now then, I'll give you chance #3 to condemn Murtha for emboldening terrorists and keeping Iraqis from joining the govt. and the Iraqi military which is BY FAR the bigger crime IMHO. Care to take me up on it? What's your agenda here exactly??
