Here's Murtha's call for an immediate withdrawal:

House Democrat calls for immediate troop withdrawal Vietnam vet says the Iraq war is a flawed policy wrapped in illusion

WASHINGTON (AP) -- An influential House Democrat who voted for the Iraq war called Thursday for the immediate withdrawal of U.S. troops from Iraq, another sign of growing unease in Congress about the conflict.

"This is the immediate redeployment of American forces because they have become the target," said Rep. John Murtha, D-Pennsylvania, one of Congress' most hawkish Democrats

Here's the immediate withdrawal resolution Murtha voted against:

H RES 571 RECORDED VOTE 18-Nov-2005 11:33 PM
QUESTION: On Agreeing to the Resolution
BILL TITLE: Expressing the sense of the House of Representatives that the deployment of United States forces in Iraq be terminated immediately

Gotta hand it to Murtha and the Dems:

They cut and run on their own ideas!

I guess it all depends on what 'immediately' is. For you and me, it means now. For lawyers and politicians (uh...) it probably means a month to a year.

i just had a crazy thought, but lets say you're a democrat in congress...sorry.

anyhow, let's say you're a democrat in congress, wouldn't it have been tempting and in some sense better to vote FOR the resolution?

I know it sounds crazy, but imagine the headlines the dems would generate.
It's be friggin 24/7. The Mainstream media would engage in a 3 month orgasm.
It's still be defeated, but you as dems would go on record as wanting to end the war.first.

Then, you as a dem would use every death in Iraq as "another dead American, whose blood is on the directly on the hands of the Republican party."(I know its pretty extreme, but i wouldn't put it past these guys)

You as a dem would then focus the 2006 campaign on the war and the economy.
I know it'd be risky as a dem, and you could very well wind up with your @ss on a plate.
Or, you could be the party that ended the "illegal, immoral war".

By voting against ending the war, they have essentially given us at least another year or two to continue the mission.
Who is going to take "anti-War" democrats seriously?

Maybe I'm just crazy, but If I were a Dem trying to steal the spotlight and fire up the base for congressional elections in 2006, it might have been tempting to vote en masse for ending the war in Iraq, "by any means neccessary".

Of course, you'd run the risk of being called a coward and a traitor, but being a democrat, you're probably used to it....hehe.

I, too, am amazed. Facts just don't seem to matter to these people. The end justifies the means and they receive a free pass from the media.

I've noticed your observations of troll behavior. They seem to emulate their "leaders," or it may be vice-versa. No links to the truth. Just "drive-by" tactics.

I've always thought that Democrats send their best into politics; Republicans send those who have the time.

I think you're right. I am pretty shocked they didn't commit suicide on this vote for a three month media orgasm. I'm sure a lot of them were tempted.

There is also news that ethics charges are coming up on him for some financial shenanigans he may be involved in. He will be know as "Cut and Run" and as Eddie Murphy says on one of his comedy skits as a "Walking the dog, No house MF"

The Republicans called Murtha's bluff straight up and without embellishment. The Dems called it a political "stunt" and immediately backed down.

Disgraceful.

Yep, the President said it would be a long battle that will test the resolve of the American people.

The President has also said the mission is to remove Saddam, get rid of his evil regime, the terrorist insurgents, to install a Democracy, get the Iraqi troops trained and doing their own job and then we can leave.

Or if the Iraqi President told us to leave, we leave.

And on Monday everything they said won't matter.
Just like everything the Dems said about WMD's and Iraq prior to Dubya becoming President.

*snicker*
