the MSM no longer controls all media flow
True, but they still control enough to sway a significant portion of the population.
The morning network programs (Today, Good Morning America, etc.) are still viewed partially by 10's of millions. The evening national news programs are still viewed by 10's of millions, too.
The total cable news viewing usually maxes out around 7 million on big news events.
Many millions ONLY catch bits and pieces of daily news and are not news junkies (like many of us on FR area). The average person watches a bit of the morning programs to catch up over night, and they watch the compacted nightly news to catch up the day's news. They don't spend allot of time digging through raw materials and reading/listening to various analyses and commentaries.
Thus, they hear morning after morning, night after night, that Bush lied. That eventually sinks in. Marxist theorem: Tell the lie long enough and people will believe it.
Where is the counter? Cheney giving a speech that gets scant media attention at some obscure conservative group. Bush giving a speech that gets cursory cable news coverage to military persons at some military bases. What does the general public hear on the nightly news? Bush lied Bush lied Bush lied.

You're right, I don't disagree and all we can do is keep fighting.
