MURTHA BREAKS (Dreher, The Corner)
The Corner ^ | Nov 17 05 | Rod Dreher

Posted on 11/17/2005 4:20:47 PM PST by churchillbuff

Don't know how many of you caught Rep. John Murtha's very angry, very moving speech just now in which he called on the White House to institute an immediate withdrawal of US troops from Iraq. CNN didn't air the entire thing, but as I listened to it, I could feel the ground shift. Murtha, as you know, is not a Pelosi-style Chardonnay Democrat; he's a crusty retired career Marine who reminds me of the kinds of beer-slugging Democrats we used to have before the cultural left took over the party. Murtha, a conservative Dem who voted for the war, talked in detail about the sacrifices being borne by our soldiers and their families, and about his visits out to Walter Reed to look after the maimed, and how we've had enough, it's time to come home. He was hell on the president too.

If tough, non-effete guys like Murtha are willing to go this far, and can make the case in ways that Red America can relate to -- and listening to him talk was like listening to my dad, who's about the same age, and his hunting buddies -- then the president is in big trouble. I'm sure there's going to be an anti-Murtha pile-on in the conservative blogosphere, but from where I sit, conservatives would be fools not to take this man seriously.

If Murtha really gave a damn about the grunts on the ground in Iraq he'd get them a decent rifle. Until then he can STFU.

Could not have said it any better.

WWII was necessary and right. To fix the problems given to us by Wilson's great folly. Korea, Vietnam, and every war since WWII? Not covered under defense of our borders

So basically if one hasn't served and hasn't been in a war then they can't speak of those who have.

So much for that first ammendment my dad said he went in to protect. So I didn't have to. It's sad that it has come down to this.

Even Goldwater softened up in his old age. No reason for us to go wobbly.

Yep and I noticed the Press is peddling Murtha as a "Conservative Democrat" who just happenned to break ranks. I just saw on Drudge that he had a similar tirade last year. I wonder how many times the old guy will be rolled out to grumble for his party? Yes they are desperate and will say and do almost anything. As long as the President closes ranks and continues to fight back they will be left with coal in their stockings this Christmas and next.

Are you comparing crime in New York to the War in Iraq?

Now, if the pullout happens as planed, will Murtha and a whole lot of other bozos take credit for it?

Of course they will. Just like that slime ball that tried to buy his way into the WH last year kept yapping about withdrawing 20,000 of our troops after the Jan. 30th vote. We had a buildup of 20,000 prox for the election and it was common knowledge they would be drawn back after the election.

President Bush has said for some time, perhaps as long as a year, that there would be phased troop draw-down after the December 15th election and the Iraqis are trained and ready to take on the full responsibility of security for their country.

The commieDemonRats think they can recite the Bush Administrations war plans in the form of demands on the President and claim victory when it happens as they demanded.

They are a treasonous commie bunch of demonRats that care about no one and certainly no country, including their own.

If we pulled out, the bloodbath would be of epic proportion.

I think that not only is the President going to close ranks with them and fight, but he and Delay are gonna press forward on some things and hurt them real bad this time. Rove as Bush's advisor is sort of a modern day Machiavelli or Lord Francis Wallsingham (Chief advisor to Queen Elisabeth I)kind of character and these antics of the Dems demands a ruthless response. They have pushed too far this time , they know it and are bracing for the onslaught that is going to hit them. It will come from moderates and conservatives from their own ranks too. Consider Joe Lieberman's criticisms to these charges the Dems are making is identical to those of the Pres and Republicans to the detail. Joe seems to be very disgusted with left wing of his party these days. The wrath of Bush and Delay on this is going to be fierce and its not going to be pretty.

The Democrat Party is now the transparent and willing ally of World Jihad.

The enemy within.

That's why we need to politically "cleanse" them.

I think Murtha's been in Congress too long, however long it is. He's lost his mind.

"Suppose you were an idiot. Suppose you were a member of Congress. But, I repeat myself."

I think going around calling people "Japs" would be something that would put a warm feeling in Grand Kleagle Byrd's heart.

. He is nothing more than a mouthpiece for Pelosi.

She does need one, you know.

After all that Botox, I don't think she can move her mouth anymore.

"he is getting old"--born in 1932---73 years old

I was born in 1922---83 years old--if my service wants me back I stand ready to go---damn, so called ex-military men who sell their President out while he is overseas on the Nations business---damn, ex-military men who call for their service to 'cut and run' while standing in the halls of Congress and sucking at the 'public trough'---Semper Fi Marines and God Bless all of our troops who deserve better than a senile "RAT" trading on his past glory?? while selling them and our Nation out to the enemy.

Instead of attacks going down over a time when we had additional more troops, attacks have grown dramatically. Since the revolution at Abu Ghraib, American casualties have doubled. What?!?! A "revolution"?!?! Is he mad?!?!

No, he is revealing his ongoing senility.
