Copy of my email to WCCC prez William Austin:
Mr. Austin,
It is with no small amount of dismay and disgust that I write to you.
I have just finished reading the full text of Prof. Daly's email to Rebecca Beach. While I have neither the time nor the inclanation to refute the ignorance inheirent to the innumerable falsehoods and outright lies contained therein, let me address the last sentence, which summarizes the mindset of Professor Daly. It reads:
Real freedom will come when soldiers in Iraq turn their guns on their superiors and fight for just causes and for people's needs--such freedom fighters can be counted throughout American history and they certainly will be counted again.
Not only is this statement patently untrue, it also manages to encourage outright murder in the name of "peace"!
Allow me to also address the general tone of this email. Suffice it to say that Mr. Daly seems to suffer from an extreme detachment from reality. This spluttering, foolish, hate-filled diatribe was sent to an eighteen-year-old girl, yet it reads as if it were a speech on sedition from the Al Queda handbook. Mr. Daly acts as though he were a child, and reacts in an immediately confrontational manner to an announcement not directed at him him personally. Moreover, his rage, extremism, and
utter departure from legitimacy are not only out of line, but are bordering the spectrum of infinite stupidity.
How a person of this caliber was ever allowed to become an educator is entirely beyond me. I strongly urge the Board of Directors for Warren Community College and yourself to suspend John Daly immediately, pending the termination of his employment at your school.

Here's what I wrote:
Dear Mr. Austin,
By now you are probably aware that one of the English professors, John Daly, has gone on record for the oppression of free speech and dissent on your campus and on others and has advocated the murder of members of the US Armed Forces. To wit, professor Daly wrote the following in an email communication to Warren Community College student Rebecca Beach:
"...I will continue to expose your right-wing, anti-people politics until groups like your won't dare show their face on a college campus. Real freedom will come when soldiers in Iraq turn their guns on their superiors and fight for just causes and for people's needs ..."
I am curious what you plan to do in response to these ravings in that this hateful, abusive rant certainly creates a hostile learning environment for anyone who might hold an opinion counter to Prof. Daly's. I suggest Prof Daly be required to attend workshops on free speech and diversity of opinion, on fostering a learning environment that encourages civil debate, and in light of his poor grasp of English grammar ( he also wrote: "Your literature and signs in the entrance lobby look like fascist propaganda and is extremely offensive.") I also recommend some workshops on English grammar and syntax.
