WASHINGTON - A woman in her 20s executed by a firing squad after being caught with a Bible. Five Christian church leaders punished by being run over by a steamroller before a crowd of spectators...
These and other "horrifying" violations of human rights and religious freedom in North Korea are reported in a new study by the United States Commission on International Religious Freedom, titled "'Thank You, Father Kim Il Sung': Eyewitness Accounts of Severe Violations of Freedom of Thought, Conscience, and Religion in North Korea."
The report, released yesterday, comes as President Bush is touring Asia, calling for increased political freedom. In remarks prepared for delivery early this morning in Japan, the president called on Red China to extend more freedom to its population of 1.3 billion. In an advance text of the speech, President Bush also extolled Taiwan, which Beijing considers a renegade province, as "a free and democratic Chinese society." And the president noted North Korean human rights abuses while reassuring the Hermit Kingdom's people.
"Satellite maps of North Korea show prison camps the size of whole cities," Mr. Bush said. "We will not forget the people of North Korea."
Among the first-hand reports are eyewitness accounts of Christians' being executed for the underground practice of their faith.

NOTE: I left out the ghastly, graphic descriptions here. Read full article if you are not squeemish.
We are too comfortable. I have no idea if I would stand or cave into threats, but this is interesting in light of those are put to death for their faith. (Note that the Christians are not blowing up others, but just standing for Christ...)

I wish the article could have given more information as to the nature and type of threats and why they moved the conference, but as long as good men do nothing, evil will prevail.
North Korea rulers are brave when confronted with the helpless...
I find it interesting that no one ever persecutes Muslims, Buddhists, etc. for their beliefs.
This article is just proof that we live in a world that is in spritual darkness.
Jong is just another fascist like Stalin, Hitler, et. al.
Someone needs to frag his a@@, and let God deal with him...Kim's in for a BIG surprise.

I wonder if Bill Clinton will call these North Koreans "good and decent people" like he did Saddam's torturers this week.
Isn't it interesting that liberals bristled at Bush's labelling of this loathsome regime as part of an "Axis of Evil" and yet we learn more and more everyday about the absolute depravity of this murderous regime. CNN even did a great show on Sunday using smuggled out video showing the horrors of Kim Jung Mentally Ill's regime. So why do liberals deny this regime is the very definition of evil and that strong leadership means you call them as such? But then, liberals probably like the idea of Christians being run over with steam rollers since they're such anti-Christian bigots themselves.
Satan is alive and well in North Korea.
Good thing Amnesty is keeping up with the panty torture at Abu Ghraib ...
Condor,
Give it 20-30 years......The persecution is subtle, but it's surely the beginning.
How awful.
What's Kim Jong Il's DU screen name?
Communism and terrorism are the flip sides of the same coin.
George Bush is the only leader on the planet challenging that absolute evil.
LIBS: "We love North Korea!"
Mr. Ronery.

That is horrible beyond belief. Why don't we just take this guy out?
Talk to the Burmese. I don't China has been overly tolerant of religion of any variety. We just don't get a whole lot of news.
There's a reason the Dalai Lama lives in exile.
If someone does something like this, knowing they will be put to death for it, how is it different than suicide?

May God bless these poor people--may they be in complete ecstasy now--and when its time, may their killers know total pain and suffering.
