Clinton: Americans 'reluctant to get to heaven' Says living wills 'will help to deal with the health-care crisis'

Bill Clinton called 'Most Influential Man in the World' in current Esquire

In making a point about the importance of having a living will, ex-President Bill Clinton remarked that religious Americans are apparently hypocrites for having a fear of death.

"It's interesting to me that we always proclaim – especially certain numbers of us – that we're the most religious big country in the world," said Clinton. "It may be true, but we also seem to be the most reluctant to get to heaven."

The remark came at a speech this month before an audience of 5,000 at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis, and was greeted by laughter and applause.

"Look, I only halfway mean that in the sense that I think that everyone has a moral obligation to live as long and as well as he or she can," Clinton continued. "But I do think the living will will help to deal with the health-care crisis."

The impeached president mentioned the case of Terri Schiavo, the brain-injured Florida woman who was starved to death by court order after a long legal battle between her parents and her husband, Michael.

"We spend far more money on the last two months of life than any other country," Clinton noted. "And I think the only answer to that and maybe the good thing that came out of the terrible agony of the Schiavo family that we were all treated to for weeks is that amazing numbers of Americans including Hillary and me ... did living wills. We'd been wanting to do it a long time. We just kept puttin' it off and puttin' it off, and I saw that [tragedy] unfold and I said 'You know, I don't want to see Chelsea on television like that. Let's do the living will.'"

Clinton, who has just been named the "Most Influential Man in the World" by Esquire magazine, reiterated a common theme of his – that the U.S. will not always be the leader of the world.

"My view is that we won't be the supreme political, military and economic power in the world forever. We will always be a great nation if we do the right things. But as soon as China and India are as rich as we are then whether we've got the only military superpower is their decision and not ours. ...

"We should be trying to build a world at this unique moment in history we would like to live in when we're not the only big dog on the block."

In the Esquire piece, magazine editor David Granger says Clinton is now poised to become "something like a president of the world or at least a president of the world's non-governmental organizations."

Audio of Bill Clinton's speech at the University of Minnesota is available here. (Total length: 1 hour, 14 min.)

>>>ex-President Bill Clinton remarked that religious Americans are apparently hypocrites for having a fear of death.<<<

Speaking of hypocrites, is this the same man who as President never missed an opportunity to display himself to the People, in his most traditional and saintly attire, in a respectable house of worship?

"Bill Clinton called 'Most Influential Man in the World' in current Esquire"

This is a bit funny. If it were true and he's against the Iraq war, why hasn't he brought the troops home, or why hasn't he stopped tax cuts and allowed tax increases as he wants.

This is the most pathetic headline I have ever seen. It is so patently & provably false it's laughable.

You'd think Esquire would at least be honest and claim that it is a wish list instead of a fact.

Yet more proof that Bill Clinton never picked up a bible.

Sounds like he has the ghost of Jimmy Carter inhabiting his mind. What a scary pair to be cast together!

Malaise and depraved immorality all rolled into one! Wishful thinking by many who read Esquire.

He also has failed to submit a a plan for his state funeral which ex-presidents are supposed to do.
Not to worry - we'll give him the funeral he deserves...

Sexy? Those women in the poll must really be hard up to consider him "the most sexy man alive".

My indelible image of Clinton is that photo of him jogging in Grandpa Moses shorts outfit complete with gut stomach and white, pasty legs churning away.

I'd sooner wake up to a horse's head in my bed than with that Pillsbury Dough Boy next to me.

Correction.

Apparently he did claim somewhere in the article that he did get a living will. I sincerely doubt it, unless Hillary's father, Satan promised to keep him alive.

Teenage boys arrested for sex acts on school bus
Posted on 11/16/2005 8:56:48 AM EST by Behind Liberal Lines

HANNIBAL, N.Y. (AP) — Some boys and girls in an Oswego County school district must sit in separate sections of their school buses following the arrest of two students for engaging in sexual activity on their ride home.

State police said a 14-year-old boy was charged in juvenile court with forcing a 13-year-old girl into a sexual act and a 16-year-old boy was charged with a misdemeanor count of sexual misconduct involving a 14-year-old girl.

Investigator Stephen Cadwell said the Hannibal Central Schools students were all on the same after-hours bus ride Nov. 7.

"These cases are coincidental," Cadwell said. "There was no conspiracy."

Superintendent Michael DiFabio said boys and girls now are riding separately on three after-hours bus runs, which service up to 15 students each from sports or extracurricular activities at the middle and high schools.

"Parents expect a safe environment, and this does not provide a safe environment," DiFabio said. "It's embarrassing for the district to admit things like this happened. I just apologize to the parents for having this happen."

The school and state police began an investigation after the 13-year-old girl told her mother. Both boys were awaiting court appearances.

Hannibal is 29 miles northwest of Syracuse.

Oh, and thanks a lot, Bill! Keep workin' on that legacy, man.

"Clinton should talk. Then why'd he go and have heart surgery if he wasn't afraid of death?"

Cause he is more special than the rest of US. This admission of what "Christians" believe exposes old Bill as one who "mocks"!!!

i seem to recall that a poll taken just a few years ago found that some 70% of american women found bill to be the most sexy man alive

I don't recall a particular poll, but I do know there were lots of liberal wimmin swooning over Bubba. Makes me embarrassed to be female.

Now, George Bush in a flight suit or in his jeans and cowboy hat. . .there's something to swoon over.

Well, he sure did do a good job playing pastor and rebuking us all for such a selfish idea of wanting to live longer than we should.

World under Hillarycare:

No, I'm sorry Mr. Smith. You're too old and don't have enough political pull to get a heart transplant. According the the list of Hillary approved medical treatments your options are 1. starvation, 2. morphine overdose, and 3. pillow held over the face until you stop twitching.

This difficult decision could have been avoided if you only had a living will.

My first thought was about Clinton believing in his entry into heaven. I see no way that we would have the same afterlife after each of our respective deeds.

If I share "heaven" with a perjurer, infidel, engineer of gassing children.....then God is James Carville.

I find the idea risible.
