WOODWARD COULD KO CASE VS. SCOOTER
NY Post ^ | 11-17-05 | DEBORAH ORIN

November 17, 2005 -- CALL it "Deep Throat 2." The CIA-leak probe is in big trouble because superstar reporter and Watergate hero Bob Woodward has emerged as a surprise witness for the defense — potentially undermining the case against ex-White House aide Scooter Libby.

Woodward yesterday revealed that he's told prosecutors he could be the first reporter to learn from a Bush administration source that Iraq war critic Joe Wilson's wife worked as a CIA analyst — but Libby wasn't his new "Deep Throat."

According to Scrappleface Plame first learned of her covert status from Woodward.

Persistently overlooked is Libby's decision to independently inquire of the CIA and obtaining of authoritative knowledge, in adavance of conversations with reporters, and in advance of his statements and testimony.

Almost in tears, the SP implied in his "press conference" Plame was undercover. If all this was true, why couldn't he make the case for the leak?

You are right about Chrissy Matthews. He was clearly upset about the Woodward development and attacked Woodward for the timimg of this revelation. He also suggested that Woodward's source was Cheney, implying that the VP is in hot water. It was fun to watch him spin like a top when presented with facts that don't fit his template that Bush and his administration are corrupt.

When his show first started, I thought he was usually pretty fair. But, after he had that medical brush with death, he reveted to his true blue lib hetitage, consistently working from the DIM playbook. Fortunately, he does not have much of a following.

The indictment also staes that NOBODY outside the intelkligence committee knew. This blows a hole clean through that. With the credibilty of the prosecution and investigation taking such a serious hit early on, the "evidence" needs to be iron-clad.

If Woodward knew, then how many others knew. If her employtment was the CIA was general knowledge, then Libby could have picked up the information at a social event even before he heard it from Cheney or someone else in government.

Indeed. And why does President Bush keep saying this investigation is serious? Neither side is clarifying the meaning of "covert," which boils down to "nobey has a clue that you have anything to do with the CIA - they think you're Mafia! (or similar)"

There was no illegal leak. Maybe politically embarrasing to admit a behind the scenes effort to discredit Wilson - but that leaves one to wonder "Why not attack Wilson frontally?"

How ironic if Woodward could save Bushies from indictment and a democratic hatefest right before the 2006 elections.

"Uh wrong this puts cyclops fitz's timeline all wrong and Libby's defense attorneys will have a field day pointing that out."

And won't that be fun to watch? Thank you for the clarification. It makes my day.

Bad news for the DUmmies, who already have Libby guilty and bound for the slammer.

In their empty minds, only a conspiracy by the "right-wing media" will save Scooter. And that's what's the're going to say, because this case is DOA.

Fitz stated in his press conference that Libby was the originator of the rumor/story.

per Joe DiGenova, guidelines require Fitz to drop the charges because the indictment was obtained under false pretense. DiGenova said, if I understand all of this, Fitz would now have to 're-calibrate' the whole case and work his way back from Woodward being the originator of the rumor/story rather than Libby.

What I can tell is that Libby was actually telling the truth. Imagine that!

Here's one of just many links:

http://www.ibiblio.org/pub/electronic-publications/stay-free/books/deeptrth.htm

scroll down. " Woodward, the son of a small-town Republican judge..."

It's common knowledge that he was a Registered Republican when he was investigating Nixon. It's mentioned in the book "All the President's Men" and there's a classic scene in the movie where Dustin Hoffman as Bernstein finds out that Woodward is a Repubican. I think they are interviewing a witness and when she says she's a Republican, Woodward/Redford says "I am too." And Berstein does a double-triple take.

This is a set up. They are wheeling out Woodward to reignite the Rove conspiracy theory.

They are trying to pull a Watergate2.

Not going to work.

If (please note the use of this word) Libby lied under oath, he should be charged with perjury. If Libby did not lie under oath, he should be exonerated.

I don't care if there was or was not a crime to lie about, the lie itself is an undermining of the judicial system.

This is why Clinton was impeached and why he should have been removed from office. I didn't care that he was having an affair. I didn't care that he was involved with a woman his daughter's age. I didn't care that he didn't even have enough sense to be discreet. I did care, very much, that he lied under oath. Perjury, even about a non-crime, is a form of eroding the system of justice that is the foundation of our Republic. It is a high crime. It is a felony.

So, if Woodward's testimony shows that Libby was not lying, this is important for Libby. If this just shows, again, how this was a political witchhunt, then Libby still needs to have the allegation of perjury examined.

No offense, but this was a movie. It's not true just because it's in a movie.

I think it speaks to the fact that Libby's recollections might honestly be muddled, that he didn't lie under oath, and that this whole case in fact is a muddle. And to evoke an old quote, where does Libby go to get his reputation back? Not just among Democrats and the MSM, but others who have attacked him viciously?

He doesn't, this just demonstrates the skill of the conspirators, they can get to anyone, so they got Woodward.

Mickey Kaus in Hugh Hewitt's show yesterday said that Novak's source was a WOMAN and that Fitzgerald decided not to indict her. A WOMAN? That's the FIRST time I have heard that, but he acted like it was a known fact.

Kaus also thinks that Woodward's source is Colin Powell because Woodward said it was an EX=Adminstration official!! Whoever it is will NOT allow Woodward to tell the pubic!
