Attack has Grassley concerned for his staff By Elana Schor
Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) said yesterday that he is concerned about the safety of all of his staffers in the wake of last weeks assault on the chief investigator for the Senate Finance Committee.
An unidentified man attacked Emilia DiSanto, who has assisted committee Chairman Grassley on a series of controversial oversight inquiries in recent months, on the evening of Nov. 2 at her suburban Virginia home. Investigators have not determined the weapon used in the assault on DiSanto, but Grassley echoed internal suspicion that her assailant used a baseball bat.
If this is work-related, theres a lot of people on my staff who might be in a dangerous situation, said Grassley, visibly disturbed.
The FBI and Capitol Police are exploring whether the assault is related to DiSantos work for Grassley, focusing on the unique circumstances of the incident. The attacker was dressed in black with a hood obscuring his face and made no demands for money from DiSanto.
Grassley said a work-related motivation could not be ruled out.
You just dont know, he said. Federal law enforcement has joined the case based on concerns that DiSantos role in Grassleys high-profile anti-corruption efforts could have put her in physical danger.
Two days after the attack on DiSanto, a bomb threat was issued against a Marshalltown, Iowa, veterans home hours before a scheduled appearance by Grassley. Though local police said the senator was not a target of the threat, which turned out to be a false alarm, the timing of the Iowa and DiSanto incidents could become a focus of the Washington investigation.
Grassley said the physical welfare of DiSanto and others on his staff is his chief focus.
Im more concerned about that than the bomb threat, he said.
Many people can't be bothered with facts.
Grassley, in his last term, has proven himself to be senile and has abandoned conservatives. Not to mention his behind-the-scenes machinations against Salier.
Read the article, didn't even try to get money. That's what perks the ears up because the mask says it was planned. The assaulter wanted to the aide to get the message, not coverup the assault by making it look like robbery either.
It would probably help your case if you were to cite a few specific examples.
The two things I can remember are (1) he was a major player in the Colossal Medicare Prescription Drug Giveaway, and (2) a couple years ago, he killed the Senate Energy Bill when he found a way to attach to it $50M+ for his idiotic Iowa Child Project indoor rain forest "tourist attraction" a.k.a. "The Pork Forest." (He eventually got the $50M by burying it in an omnibus appropriations bill; unlike energy bills, appropriations bills are immortal).
Please remind me of some other examples. I must admit I tend to forget bad memories.
He sold out to the moderates on the Bush Tax Cut, channeled the ghost of Karl Marx and said that the oil companies should share the wealth, endorsed Ganske over Salier, blatantly lied about the medicare costs, voted to federalize airline security, voted for the Department of Homeland Security, introduced legislation to allow illegal immigrants access to American universities, voted for the Highway bill...
ELF?
You might try laying off the drugs for a while.
