Adrian Rogers' death Nov. 15 prompted Southern Baptist and evangelical leaders nationwide to release statements memorializing the longtime Bellevue Baptist Church pastor and former SBC president. Among them:

"The flags of Christianity in general, and of Southern Baptists in particular, should be at half mast upon this occasion because few and very, very few like Dr. Adrian P. Rogers -– friend, pastor, warrior, statesman, soul winner and inspiration -- seldom arise in one generation."

"Adrian Rogers was a model preacher, pastor, evangelist, husband and father. He was an inspiration to untold millions, and the full impact of his life and ministry likely will not be comprehended or calculated this side of eternity. … When I needed counsel, I often sought his advice. Not only was I blessed by listening to his powerful sermons, I looked at his life and saw no greed, no grudges, no jealousies and no egotism. However, I did see Jesus. If we Baptists had a Hall of Fame, Dr. Rogers would be enshrined tomorrow."

I am deeply saddened by his passing, although I know Dr.Rogers now walks along side the Lord.

I attended Bellevue a few years back, even attended a Pastor's class he taught on Wednesday night. He was kind and so knowledgeable, but he did take the time to shake my hand.
He really was, and his sermons were so down-to-earth and easy to understand. I ordered tapes of some of his sermons several years ago, and I hope I can find them! I'll put them in a safe place and treasure them!
If you ever doubt that the Most High has a place for you....check out this man's teachings. He truly was a servant fit for the masters use!

Hearing Dr. Rogers on Sunday mornings before going to my regular service was one of the bright spots of my two years in Western Tennessee.
I heard him on CSN radio frequently, he was always fired up for the Lord.
"His lord said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant. You have been faithful over a few things, now I will set you over many things. Enter into the joy of your lord.’
