...fingered polygamy as one reason for the rioting in the country.

Too many straight lines,.....not enough time. (/sarcasm)

Of course, it was polygamy! It wasn`t the fact that the rioters were fed up living amongst the biggest a-holes this side of creation.

Gérard Larcher is the Minister of Labor which makes him an expert on sociology, pate d' foie gras, and j'en sait quoi.

"If people are not employable, they will not be employed.”
It is a piece of most profound wisdom. Hear, hear! I am pleasantly surprised that it comes from - strange to say - a state minister of France. Who'd think it?

The French are blaming their problems on a morality line that has been crossed. I'm sure the irony is lost on them.

Politicians estimate there are 10,000-20,000 polygamous families in France, most from North and sub-Saharan African countries such as Algeria, Mali and Senegal, where the practice is legal.

Polygamy is a taboo subject for most mainstream French politicians. Far-right groups, however, have seized on it to argue that immigrants abuse the French social security system by collecting state benefits for several wives.

Gérard Larcher said multiple marriages among immigrants was one reason for the racial discrimination which ethnic minorities faced in the job market. Overly large polygamous families sometimes led to anti-social behaviour among youths who lacked a father figure, making employers wary of hiring ethnic minorities, he explained.

Pot meet kettle! The French, busy with their own mistresses (cinq à sept), are criticizing polygamous immigrants?

I might get flamed here, but I think there is some truth to it. I read in an earlier FR post that some Arab men dump their wives in France so they can go back to the ME & get a 2nd wife. No doubt the Muslim family dynamic is screwed up. (Not to mention the physical abuse contributes.)

This is not the total reason, of course. I think these people were originally the dregs of their own society. Europe, especially France, basically became the dumping ground. Even were these people sent back to their native or ancestral countries, the governments there wouldn't know what to do with them.
