Spanish police expose more CIA links to secret flights of detainees

· 42 operatives traced going through Palma airport
· Names unearthed match Italian and German inquiries

The Guardian (UK)

Spanish police have traced up to 42 suspected CIA operatives believed to have taken part in secret flights carrying detained or kidnapped Islamist terror suspects to interrogation centres and jails in Afghanistan, Egypt and elsewhere.

A Spanish police report seen by the New York Times provides the names of the mainly American crew and passengers of a dozen suspect flights that landed in Palma de Mallorca in 2003 and 2004. The flights were allegedly part of the CIA's "extraordinary rendition" programme, in which, say human rights groups, suspected extreme Islamists are taken to be interrogated in countries where US human rights rules on torture do not apply.

A more reputable paper would say "alledge" rather than "expose."

We'll see how long it takes the Plame alarmists to out CIA operatives all over the Middle-East. I'll bet they are kicking themselves now! That won't stop them.

Do the Spanish really want these terrorists back? Because we can always just drop them off with a full load of ammunition and a couple pounds of TNT wherever the Spanish designate.

The Spanish surrendered to Al-queda after March 11, 2004. They elected a socialist coward and they are more interested in harassing US soldiers with nuisance arrest warrants for a friendly fire incident the crazy judge insists on calling murder. They also don't want the US getting terrorists off the streets.

This nation is not acting like an ally and we need to start putting diplomatic and economic pressure on them. Maybe Bush could demonstrate some toughness with these French wannabes.

This is why you don't give up airbases like Rota and Moron etc in high traffic air corridors.

Spain has lost it's senses. The US operatives should just declare future detainees as members of diplomatic attaches and be done with it.
