GOP Likes Chafee As Best Chance in R.I.
AP ^ | 11/15/5 | M.L. JOHNSON

Warwick, R.I. -- Liberal Republican Sen. Lincoln Chafee refused to support President Bush in the last election, opposed the GOP tax cuts and was the only Republican to vote against the use of military force in Iraq, a war he has likened to Vietnam.

So why, a year before the election, is the GOP embracing Chafee and spending close to $200,000 on television ads aimed at undercutting his conservative rival in the Republican primary, Cranston Mayor Stephen Laffey?

Like him or not, Republicans consider Chafee their best chance to win in heavily Democratic Rhode Island.

Hank, do you want to give up control of the judiciary committee? The President's nominees would never get out of commmittee. That is what is at stake. A conservative Republican cannot win in Rhode Island. We need to get rid of the RINOS in the states that we can win.

If a few of the RINOS were axed, what would the chances be of Alito ever making it to the court? The answer is zero. Yeah, but a least we'd show those RINOS. We'd show 'em good. Maintaining control is absolutely the prize that we cannot relinquish. If the DemocRATS were in control now, they would be changing rules to ensure that they stay in control. Does anyone doubt that?

Thanks for speaking up. RINOs are worried about their jobs. Check this out from a state that is rapidly going blue.

Consider the source

For once, the AP is correct. The RNC ALWAYS support the RINO incumbent over a conservative challenger.

CONSERVATIVES SHOULD STOP SENDING MONEY TO THE RNC AND DONATE TO INDIVIDUAL CONSERVATIVE REPUBLICAN CANDIDATES

Sorry Doug, but you're just engaging in hypotheticals and fallacies. You DON'T know if a real conservative can win in R.I., or anywhere else. Toomey came close to upsetting Specter in PA.

Chaffee deserves to lose, the GOP Senate "majority" is a joke anyway, and I'll definetly be sending some greenbacks Laffey's way next year.

I still think maintaining committee chairs is more important but I've been savagely attacked for that.

The GOP can't maintain the committee chairs they have now. What makes you think they'll somehow have more control if Chaffee is re-elected.

But since you are so politically astute why don't you go over to Rhode Island, recruit a good conservative candidate and convince the voters there to vote for real conservatives? Let us know how you do.

Dems and liberals can't keep winning RI forever. Sooner or later the dam is going to break, and electing a true conservative is the only choice who'll give them the straight dope.

Very disappointed in you.

he also cut and ran in Lebanon after our marines were killed

Horse vomit he was pressured by the Rats in Congress who threatened to bottle up his legislation if he didn't pull out of Lebanon. Reagan wanted to stay and fight.

But they don't control the committees. You have to realize how important that is.

Yes, please enlighten me. Please tell me why Chaffee is a liberal Republican when he can just as easily become a Dem and be liberal. Why bother being a Republican at all? You don't see any pro-life or pro-gun Dems, do you? Why should WE have to compromise all the time?

GOP is chicken shi*.

The bad old GOP holding the good people of R.I. hostage by preventing them from voting for Laffey.

If the GOP is chicken shi* then the electorate of R.I. is dog shi*.

In 1994, the first thing I thought about on election night was SUBPOENA POWER. The GOP would have the right to subpoena witnessess and go after Clinton's crimes. Without that, your party sits on the sidelines.

Let's also get rid of all the RINOS in Congress. If the RATS get control, they will absolutely bring Articles of Impeachment. But that's okay. At least we'll show those RINOS we mean business.

NO conservative should EVER give a dime to any of the various committees that gather $ from individuals and dole it out to those running for office.

Yes. A donation to the individual Laffey is the way to go.

What do we "win" if Chafee wins?

A:According to the ACU, Chafee votes conservative about 40% of the time.

Chaffee is a GOP because his father ran as one in R.I. and that's the why and how of this Caffee getting elected there. And NO Conservative Republican can get elected in R.I.; not even a moderate one can. Rhode Island is Jersey north.

The ONLY value that Chaffee serves, is that he helps give the GOP a majority.
