Chertoff to Hannity: Removing 10~11M ILLEGALS too expensive and impractical
FoxNews Channel: Hannity & Colmes ^ | November 14, 2005 | Transcript

Posted on 11/15/2005 6:51:13 AM PST by DTogo

...HANNITY: Because you had made a controversial statement, and you seem to be backing off of it now, and it was that people that are here illegally, that they all ought to be sent back.

I'm paraphrasing.

And it seems like now you've sort of backed off that position a little bit, because there are million that we estimate that are in this country illegally.

Why wouldn't we send them back?

CHERTOFF: ...I also recognize we've got, according to some estimates, 10 to 11 million illegals already in this country working. And the cost of identifying all of those people and sending them back would be stupendous. It would be billions and billions of dollars...

HANNITY: Why — in that sense, aren't you really rewarding those that didn't respect our laws and sovereignty? In other words, OK, you're saying, you came into this country illegally.

Now that we've identified you, we're going to let you even stay longer and make money, and then you can go back in three to six years.

Why don't we say, no, you're here illegally, you didn't respect our laws, you ought to go home? Why don't we just say that?

CHERTOFF: Well, Sean, you know, it's really an issue of practicality.

I mean, as a practical matter, we've got to identify these people and pull them out of the shadows.

Now, this is not an amnesty. This is not — the president's proposal is not a path to citizenship. It's clearly temporary, and it clearly envisions people who would have to commit to go back....

Do you know who ALL of those 10M people are that we shouldn't pursue them for deportation?

Huh? No, do you? That would be more a question for those who DO want to deport them. It's impossible for this reason, even if we should.

Any other lawbreakers and petty criminals we should excuse while we're at it - small time drug dealers, tax cheats, etc?

If you don't understand the difference between someone who crosses the border looking for work to suppor their family and a drug dealer, you have zero perspective from which to educate anybody on anything.

you've done little but demonstrate an ability to be evasive and contrarian with no real offering of any potential solutions.

If I had a real solution to this problem I would run for high elected office but Im not. What I have been attempting to do is show that there are good reasons why politicians havent just "done the right thing" and put up a wall, shot all invaders, rounded up 20 million illegals and shipped them home..all in a day. Its not a conspiracy that Bush and the Tri-lateralists have to depress your wages or put the white man down, it's a complex problem and pushing down on one lever just causes another problem somewhere else in the system.

He didn't say the above. Why not put in the title what he really said?

Is this your title?

What illusion are you living under flashbunny? How many more of these tragedies, 14 illegal alien rapists, will it take before guys like you will wake up?

Does someone you love have to be attacked? That's sad.

Worse, if you review this entire thread, there is also an influx of pro-illegal alien supporters, apologists and enablers, even though in total it is a quite small gaggle of quislings. They are easy to identify.

So are the xenophobes and racists.

I have been a LEGAL alien working in foreign countries, and currently have family, friends, and neighbors who are LEGAL aliens living and working in the U.S.

I know firsthand what it means to respect and obey they immigration laws of foreign countries and the U.S., despite all the frustrations, delays, and costs. Hence, I have ZERO tolerance for those who don't.

Read the transcript, including what I highlighted in the excerpt. That's exactly what he said, but in more words than I am allowed to put into the title of this thread.

Yah whatever.

If you were living in a cardbord shack in Mexico with a wife and two kids, you'd do the same thing. If you don't think so, you are lying to yourself.

I'm not saying we shouldn't tighten up the border, I'm not saying we shouldn't deport people that have committed other crimes. But shipping out some guy who's been here and has been working for years and hasn't done anything wrong but sneak over the border is both bad for our economy and morally wrong.

My humblest apologies flashbunny - that post should have been directed at Dave S. Keep living in your dreamworld Dave S, but you (and your family) will learn the hard way. I hope you remember this prediction when the time comes.

My thought exactly...we need to shut down the worthless pencil-pushers at the Dept. of Homeland Security and use those billions of dollars to really do something for our security by deporting all illegals and shutting down the borders. Then we could have the Indian government show the US government how to build a very effective coiled, electrified razorwire fence as they have done along the 2,500 mile border between India and Bangladesh. Don't give us any of that French surrender talk, Chertoff. We know it CAN be done.

how 'bout if someone's seeing the light upon the hill...and it's coming from a mansion of a rich business owner, or movie star, or performer.....should we slap the guy on the back who decides to be "motivated" enough to break in and steal their things

How clueless must one be to make such a leap from making a life for yourself doing what the average American wouldnt consider doing to stealing some rich Hollywood Liberals home and property.

"But shipping out some guy who's been here and has been working for years and hasn't done anything wrong but sneak over the border is both bad for our economy and morally wrong."

1. Being here illegally is morally wrong.

2. It is not "bad for the economy". It would be bad for the employers who rely on cheap, illegal labor, but the economy would improve in countless ways.

Keep living in your dream world.
