Chertoff to Hannity: Removing 10~11M ILLEGALS too expensive and impractical
FoxNews Channel: Hannity & Colmes ^ | November 14, 2005 | Transcript

Posted on 11/15/2005 6:51:13 AM PST by DTogo

...HANNITY: Because you had made a controversial statement, and you seem to be backing off of it now, and it was that people that are here illegally, that they all ought to be sent back.

I'm paraphrasing.

And it seems like now you've sort of backed off that position a little bit, because there are million that we estimate that are in this country illegally.

Why wouldn't we send them back?

CHERTOFF: ...I also recognize we've got, according to some estimates, 10 to 11 million illegals already in this country working. And the cost of identifying all of those people and sending them back would be stupendous. It would be billions and billions of dollars...

HANNITY: Why — in that sense, aren't you really rewarding those that didn't respect our laws and sovereignty? In other words, OK, you're saying, you came into this country illegally.

Now that we've identified you, we're going to let you even stay longer and make money, and then you can go back in three to six years.

Why don't we say, no, you're here illegally, you didn't respect our laws, you ought to go home? Why don't we just say that?

CHERTOFF: Well, Sean, you know, it's really an issue of practicality.

I mean, as a practical matter, we've got to identify these people and pull them out of the shadows.

Now, this is not an amnesty. This is not — the president's proposal is not a path to citizenship. It's clearly temporary, and it clearly envisions people who would have to commit to go back....

I think over 30 YEARS' time of "WAITING" for the illegal immigration to be fixed IS LONG ENOUGH, and that length of time of waiting before getting FED UP is hardly UNREASONABLE IMPATIENCE that there STILL has been NOTHING done about the border problem.

"(at present estimates there are over 16,000 illegals who are bravely serving our country, having enlisted in the armed services, according to a Denver Post article Feb 24,2005)."

They shouldn't be there. They are a security risk. If they want to join, there are mechanisms to come here LEGALLY and join.

The amount of mental gymnastics you will engage in in order to find some sort of justification for illegal aliens is staggering.

You conveniently mention the "benevolent" illegal aliens but fail to even mention the countless murders, rapes, drunk driving incidents, and illegal gang activity committed by the 'unmentionable' illegal aliens.

And then you have the gall to label people who condemn illegal activities as "unamerican" and compare them to DU.

Well guess what- one side here is espousing the same defense of illegal behavior that DU does. And it isn't me.

" What are you going to do about the fact that the Supreme Court has said you cant do that? Duh?"

You create another law and let it work its way to the supreme court once you have enough originalists on it.

As I pointed out before, the original intent of hte 14th amendment was never meant to apply to illegal aliens. You just need 5 justices who realize that.

Amended. I doubt if we would repeal the entire 14th Amendment. And there is a procedure to do so. We need to redefine how citizenship is obtained.

But that can only apply to the future. Once someone is an American citizen via being born here, you cant redefine citizenship to take it away from them. Court wont allow that for same reason you cant be tried under a law that didnt exist until after a crime was committed.

Don't think for once that the elites that own this cartel don't have the Hildabeast in their sights for 2008. Only us few true conservatives with an all out assault on her can stop it from happening.

How are we going to stop this? The cartel has the GOP self destructing on queue in preparation for the old party flip-flop thing and I think they have planned an even bigger insult to all Americans than the last Clintoon.

Chertoffs should be fired for incompetence.

The man is only executing the policy of this administration. The illegals in the US are like cows in India. They're a pain in the a** but they're untouchable.

Chertoff to Hannity: Removing 10~11M ILLEGALS too expensive and impractical

If we hired illegals to do this kind of work, we could save a bundle.

"Face it people, if this was as cheap and easy as you think, someone would have done it already."

bzzzt, sorry wrong answer.

It is cheap and easy, especially compared to the costs of keeping them here.

However, the political will to do it is what doesn't exist. Mainly because A) people want to pander to the hispanic voting block, even though the majority of hispanics favor enforcing immigration laws and B) politicians receive large donations from people who benefit from not enforcing our borders and immigration laws.

It can be done pretty easily, and with most of the laws on the books. It just takes people with gonads to do it. Instead, we are lead by cowards.

Chertoff should be sacked immediately. Of course, he won't be, probably because he's parroting the White House line.

The Republicans and Democrats are willing to waste hundreds of billions on a pork-laden highway bill but are fiscally concerned only when it comes to one issue: immigration.

A pox on both parties.

I agree that any illegal alien who is picked up by police for a crime should be deported.

All illegals have committed a crime. That's why we call them illegals.

I sadly have to agree.

I completely agree. You know it's not the war that has me completely upset at Bush..........it is all the other stupid shit he has pulled:

-open borders
-campain finance legislation approval without paycheck protection
-prescription drug benifits
-Miers Nomination
-Katrina and all the cronyism
-huge deficits

This is why his approval is so low and why Democrats are going to clean up in 2006. I supported him in the last two elections, but my opinion has really changed. I really think Bush doesn't know what the F**k he is doing. It's really sad to watch............really wish we had another Regan or a true leader. It's not Bush...........he is just to out of touch with the base and he is no conservative.

Take away their freebies and put the fear of God in them. They'll return on their own.

$200+Bn and 3 years later, we're doing pretty good in Afghanistan and Iraq, halfway around the world.

Why not at least make an effort here at home?

True. A pox on both parties. I'm convinced that the only solution is a 3rd or 4th party. It only takes one willing to vote outside the box. There is no incentive for either faction in this "Two-Party Cartel" to respect the individual as the elites determine who stays in power. It is up to the taxpayer to revolt or live in slavery. Time is running out.

And how will you identify the illegals? It is very difficult to do in a country as free as the USA. Door to Door searches? Requiring citizens to carry documents with them at all times? Tell me how we can pick up all the illegals.

because some people have the audacity to actually want to see our national security laws enforced!

If I stood in the door of an abortion clinic and refused to move, then the laws of the land trump everything.

The people who broke the laws of the land to teach blacks to read in my home state of Alabama should be prosecuted.

The people who broke local laws to register blacks to vote in Mississippi should be charged and incarcerated.

People who download Pink Floyd's "Meddle" in MP3 format b/c their own album is scratched to hell and they don't even have a turntable any more should be prosecuted for violation of copyright laws.(I am guilty, I assume you will report me to the RIAA, right?)

All the hard working american citizen contractors who declare about a third of their income should be hunted down by the IRS and prosecuted.

Cameras that catch speeders are a really nifty idea. We MUST stop the lawbreakers! In fact, those little computers that they have under the drivers seat of some cars should be ubiquitous. We can just stop at the data transmission stations, the highway patrol can read the data and issue the appropriate tickets. Gotta keep the laws, you know.

The Boston Tea Party should have been hung from the yardarm

and My favorite: REX LEX (with apologies to William Witherspoon and Samuel Rutherford)

I could go on and on, or you can acknowledge that sometimes the reason for a legal nightmare like our illegal immigrant situation rests sometimes in the bad law as much as in our unwillingness to enforce the bad law.

A trillion dollars for Bush Jr.'s "free" pill vote-buying scam for greedy geezers wasn't too expensive, but defending our borders is?

Once again - nice going, Republicans.
