Not only is the discovery of obestatin interesting and important in itself, but note that the discovery was made by applying analytical techniques derived from evolutionary thinking. Perhaps 'intelligent design' researchers should be required to explain to various local school boards around the country why their, uh, ideas haven't produced such a result yet. Clearly, the really intelligent design going on in biology today grows out of evolution-based studies.

I'll leave it for others to ponder the significance of the fact that the discoverers of obestatin are of East Asian extraction (though I'll venture to guess that they were neither born nor educated in Dover, PA, or Kansas).

1) Eat less (but eat mostly protein and veggies).
2) Exercise (both resistance and endurance training).
3) Repeat forever (but still occasionally indulge).

Problem solved.

NEXT?

Researchers at the Stanford University School of Medicine uncovered obestatin by using the principles of evolution to pick clues from data held in the Human Genome Project, as well as the genome sequencing projects for many other organisms, among them, yeast, fruit flies and mice.

I'd be interested in specifically what 'principles' these researchers used and how they used them to make this discovery. Anyone have a link to something with more detail?
