Orange County Leads Area In Concealed Weapons Licenses

RESOURCE: Florida's Concealed Weapon Program
ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. -- Next time you're out in a crowded place, take a look around. Chances are someone's carrying a handgun and you wouldn't know. Channel 9's Steve Barrett has uncovered just how common concealed weapons are in the places we all go.
It might be in a purse, or a pocket, a car, or a briefcase, and you have no way of knowing. In Central Florida, about one in 40 adults has a permit to pack hidden heat...
... More than 55,000 Central Floridians are licensed to carry a concealed weapon. Orange County has the most, followed by Brevard and Volusia. Orange County has 14,942; Brevard County is next with 11,527; Volusia County has 10,631; Lake County follows with 6,401; Seminole County has 6,330; Osceola County has 3,701; and Flagler County has 1,864.
That worries many people, especially now that Florida law allows the use of deadly force if someone feels their life or property is being threatened. Yet, statistics show violent crime actually decreased with Florida's right to conceal, depending on who you believe, anywhere from seven percent to 40 percent...
...Gun proponents say, while not knowing who's carrying may make some uneasy, it also makes criminals think twice.
Carrying a concealed weapon is considered a right in Florida. The license costs about $100. If you're 21, can shoot and have a clean record, chances are you qualify.

A convicted child molester would not qualify for a carry license. He would have to break the law just to own a gun or to carry one.
>>The spread sheet listed the names, addresses, dob, sex and race of each CWP holder.<<
Such an extensive list would be a wonderful place to start looking for someone's identity to steal. Maybe you could find a few Social Security Numbers with google, for many other public records, especially court filings have them buried in the text.
Should not any media outlet that makes such ID theft possible be held liable for facilitating the crime? This is based on one of the legal theories by which gun-grabbers have supported lawsuits against those who manufacture and sell lawful firearms.
What is good for the goose is good for the gander.
Now, before anyone gets their panties in a wad, they need to understand that, just as surely as it's an unpopular bit of truth (especially in this day and age), there are many notable exceptions.
... decided to pull it from their site. The spread sheet listed the names, addresses, dob, sex and race of each CWP holder.Too bad they pulled it. It can be tough to find single ladies near my age who aren't rabidly anti-gun ;)
Do you seriously want a convicted child molester having the right to carry a concealed weapon, as he follows your daughter to school?
Here is my original comment-"If carrying a concealed weapon is a right (presuming the individual is not a criminal), why are they required to pay $100 for that right, and why do they need a license?"
