The teacher, Mohammed Al-Harbi, was sentenced to 40 months in jail and 750 lashes for his "crimes". He was denounced by colleagues and students at his school. The Saudi authorities and Arab newspapers are presenting it as a case of the teacher "mocking religion" and receiving the appropriate penalty.

If I remember correctly from a few years ago, 30 lashes minus one was the most severe permitted. 30 meaning death and minus one was just before death would occur. Any historians out there?

Every time I read these accounts, I think what a surprise it was that such a peaceful country like Saudi was the home of Osama and 16 of the 19 9/11 terrorists.
