No More Christmas Greeting From Walmart
Fox News | Nov 14, 2005 | Solid Oak

Posted on 11/14/2005 9:07:27 AM PST by Solid Oak

Just heard on Fox News that Walmart has abandoned their practive of greeting customers with "Merry Christmas." Also if you look for Christmas gifts on their web site, they send you to a Holiday Gift page. However, they have other gift sites tied to specific religions.

This is another attack on our culture in general, and Christianity in particular (85 percent of the people in this country are Christian). Walmart has seen my last dollar.

If you just heard that on Fox - Fox is behind the times.

The WalMart website was changed last week - I don't know how many threads there were about it here.

this is a non issue.

If you don't want your money going to communist china, where do you shop? WalMart carries the same products as other retailers and the majority of the products do NOT come from china.

Late, late, late. This was thoroughly covered last week, and Walmart has changed its website already and fired the person who wrote the letter that started this all.

It's always worth searching here before posting.

Really? Where do you shop that doesn't have Chinese-made goods? Walmart has tons of US-made products. You have to look for them, just as you do at any other store.

Don't forget they still have Hanuka (sp?) and Kwanza, but Christmas has been changed to Holidays.

They have decided that more people would be upset with a "merry christmas" greeting than will be upset by a "happy holidays" greeting.

Happy Holidays covers all the major holidays and religious observances, without being disrespectful, so I see it as a rational act by a secular corporation.

They have already changed their web policy, and now "christmas" goes to "christmas" like you would expect. They also apologized for an e-mail sent by an employee and fired that employee (answering a charge by the Catholic Defense League).

Maybe you haven't heard that Hannukkah is at the same time. Happy Holidays covers everyone. Since when has the materialistic side of Christ Birthday become Sacred.

The last time I shopped at Wal-Mart, I wanted to complain to the manager about the long lines, but the checkout person did not speak english well enough to understand my request.

Wal-mart has abandoned its practice of greeting customers with "Merry Christmas."

Good on 'em. In case nobody but me has noticed, IT'S NOT CHRISTMAS. It's not even DECEMBER. It's still a week and a half until THANKSGIVING. It's 82 degrees out, and I don't have the things cleaned up from Veterans' Day yet.

If Wal-mart employees refrain from wishing me a Merry Christmas until December 25 (if I should find myself at a Wal-mart that day), then they'll free me from the temptation of responding, "Oh, is today Christmas? My kids are going to be furious ... I totally forgot about it! And why is my husband at work?" or similar heavy sarcasm.

What can you expect from the biggest "capitalist" supporter of communist Red China?

Mao don't do Christmas!

Old news. They corrected the issue at their website. They still will not say Merry Christmas, ignoring the fact that their vast fortune has largely been made off the purchases of Christmas shoppers. So they split the difference hoping everyone will be happy.

I don't blame you for being offended. I'm reworking my Christmas spending habits in response to all of this. Hate Christmas oh retailers of the world? Okay. I can celebrate Christmas without you.
